Make sure your fishing oversome sort of rock debris and you will catch fish. Weather deep or shallow, you need rock! You can eliminate a lot of dead water on Falcon by doing this.

How do you know if your over rock? Heres a couple ways: 1. Look at the shoreline for rock debris, if its on the shore you can just about bet it extends out under water as well. It can be pebbles, gravel, chunks, or boulders. 2. Look at the water clarity! At Falcon, water over rock will usually be clearer than water over mud, clay, or caleche! 3. Touch test. Take a PVC pole or something with you and stick it down and feel if its hard or not! 4. Visual. Sometimes when the water is clear enough and you are shallow, you can see rock on the bottom. Areas with rock on Falcon always extend out pretty far!

Now, if you can put some cover or additonal structure along with this rock bottom you are in business. This isnt hard to do on Falcon cause there are brush, ledges, points, humps, road beds, and old concrete everywhere!

However, you are on your own at locating this stuff. I cant give away all the secretes. But, go in to Falcon Lake Tackle, buy some stuff and ask James for some advice. The guys at Falcon Lake Tackle are some of the nicest guys in the industry!

Might be worth it to book a guide for day one or at least half a day and then fish on your own the rest of the weekend.

Eh... Too stubborn for that! LoL... Its a local bass club tourney anyway... I am fairly confident on any body of water but nice to get some reports before hand...

Drop (don't cast) a senko or a brush hog in thick brush in 3 to 6 feet of water. Let it soak and watch your line closely. The bite is subtle but they are there.

Drop it in the middle of the brush. 1/4 oz. weight and very strong line. I broke off 3 with 20lb. Big Game on the hook set never happened before.

Have fun out there! Went down to Choke today and realized just how badly I miss Amistad and Falcon. I'm headed that way in March. Drop us a report when you get back.

I just got back. That lake is awesome. I fished the Mexico side mid lake level. Caught several on mid level crank baits. Luckcraft 2.5 square bill in gold and red colors. Also watermelon red flake brushhog flipping brush in about 7ft.
Fish were about To go to shore, but it was pretty cold I'm the morning. I fished 16th and 17th. I originally was going to choke but there was toouch new water and water to was dropping last week.

welcome aboard

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
