Thanks everyone for your input on this subject, this is the TFF doing what it does best
sharing great information,
As for the POLL I voted to release a Share a Lunker ,First TPW sets the standard
for Fishery management . TPW takes great care of a valuable resource we are fortunate
to have,In the past I would have donated a fish and I have had a customer do so,
and it was a great story, Because the fish had already been caught ,donated then
released back. Then about one year later she was caught and donated again...
So a successful SAL released back into Lake Fork then caught again (no weight gain) .That fish did spawn and was reported to me it was one of the largest spawns they have had.
The Fact that Fish cannot grow bigger if they are dead is the leading reason I voted to let her go back, to make a super bass you cannot take the chance of killing
a 13 lber that has the chance to be a State Record bass.

X 1000

I don't think the fact that the fish had no weight gain can be overlooked. Check out how much Dottie grew each time you was released into her natural environment.

That's right. Leave the fish in place to spawn. What's so hard to understand about that?

Donate. You are already stressing the fish enough after catching it, put it in good hands...

Do you think the bass are selective and won't eat those SAL fingerlings? If the program is so great, why hasn't any other state started a program of their own?

SAL fingerlings were stocked in Marine Creek lake then TPWD killed the hydrilla. Smooth move EX LAX....
CPR is the way to go and besides they have family soap

for the record... the hydrilla was dead before SAL fry and fingerlingers were put there

+1

Also for the record,Marine Creek Lake was one of the first lakes in Texas stocked with florida bass in the mid 70's.
TPW must know something, its an 18 inch lake. The biggest fish i know of thats came out of there is 8 lbs.I myself have caught some 6's and 7's ...but there few and far between.
Any lake that has the grass killed out of it,seems to go down hill afterwards.Cedar Creek is a good example.

The SAL program is a good one.

All altruism aside, Id love to be named angler of the year and snag a lifetime fishing license.

I voted donate. I think that the program is great. It also helps that the two lakes that I fish that have the best chance of producing a sharelunker, Ivie and Amistad, have people like Carl and Jerry right there to take good care of the fish until TPW can get them.

Donate..
I've been trying for over 20 yrs ain't gonna quit now.. hammer

I will say there is something special about a huge bass
in your possession. Kind of an 'AWE' thing for me, I've caught and held fish over 12-lbs, they're a freak of nature, and a wonderment.

I am a bankfisherman so most likely snap a few pics and maybe get a replica made. If I had a boat/livewell depending on the lake donate it because read the "horror stories" of the big ones being eaten which I have seen. So at least donating it one more set of baby fishes.

I would release but hold nothing against the program.

Look, I'm just some dope on a fishing forum and I'm not going to pretend to know what's best for the fishing community. The SAL program does a good job educating/promoting the sport and that's good enough for me.

Now, if I was a professional angler, I would do everything I could to get a fish in the program. Let's be honest, it's great for business.

Definitely release. A 13+ lb bass is female and at this time of year is ready to lay eggs. Any 13+ lb bass has good genetics which should be returned to the lake it came from. What a lot of people don't know about SLP is they only breed the pure Florida strains. If your Bass in not genetically 100% Florida, they won't use it. By the time it gets to Athens and is tested genetically, the eggs will already be laid and the fry thrown away. As I said before any 13+ Bass should have the eggs left in the lake she came from.
