Abyss,
If it wasn't for the sorry !@#$%^ that wanted my graphs on my boat more than I did I would give you my old ones. But, at the current moment I am having to use them. I am on the phone today working out a deal with Hummingbird. Check back with me (cause my memory isn't very good ) and if your still in need upon mine being replaced I will hook you up. I have a Lowrance X-17 GPS that is great for an older unit that I think that both you and your son will enjoy. I think that you taken the time to get him into fishing is awesome...If you need anything don't be afraid to ask.

Your right, that was a good deal on the x-96 (almost half price), and free shipping on it too. Didn't see that unit going through the front end of Sonars, but doing a search for Lowrance products brought it up. Thanks!

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

what's the budget? Because I would say why not both. the trolling motor is the most important, but most expesive... technically because you can get a real good fishfinder for about $150 unless you're looking for one of those that makes a cappucinno, gives you a back rub, and calls the fish to the boat (ok not really) then you're looking at a grand plus. Crappie fishing I'd take the sonar unit first and I noticed the eagle cuda was mentioned which is a good buy. I have one and love it even though it is pretty cheap.

I'm not suprised that the experienced bass angler chose the trolling motor and the avid white bass/hybrid fisherman chose the depthfinder.

Some of these guys are so keen on the water that their memory is like a built in depthfinder!

Emit...I believe Cabelas has some Lowrance X-96s on clearance as well that would be a little more than your prices listed but a much better unit.

ok, I can do this. i will just fish for perch. Boat trolling motor or not. Depth finder or not. Doesn't matter. I could probably catch more than some of the fishermen for sure this way. Not a very good format. hammer

If my primary fishing partner were a six year old I would get a Fish finder and learn to troll for hybrids and whites in my local lakes or anchor over brush piles for crappies. You dont find alot six year olds pitching the bank.

I would like to thank everyone for there input. I have read and thought about it. I decided to get the trolling motor first and the fish finder second.
