When you have located a brushpile, whats YOUR choice for fishing it? What baits, and why?
Maybe Im weird or crazy (yes to both) But I like to scrape a crankbait thru the pile first, to see if I can stir anything up.. it has worked fairly well for me in the past.
If the crankbait falls off, or never turns on, I throw a jig in there..drag it across a few pieces of brush and shake it..
how do you fellas and ladies attack brush piles?

Depends on what kind of brush.. Cedar Trees and new Christmas are hard to crank. Hardwood brush I Crank and Jig.
Most of the time I'll use a Jig or Tx Rig.. if it's on deep structure I like a short C-rig with a Big Worm or Craw.

If you can catch some crawdads, throw one of them down there without its pinchers and let it do its thing. Otherwise I throw flukes or bounce spinnerbaits off of them.

i drive by it with side imaging to see if it has baitfish on it, and how they are positioned. then i attack it with a crankbait first, then a c-rig, then a tx rig. if I think there's a big one buried, i will pull out the finesse jig with heavy hook

Most of the brush we typically fish is on docks so we Test them with a Texas rig... on Cedar Creek the vast majority is Cedars, Willows and Christmas trees. Also usually on docks there will be some tied up shallow behind the dock or under a walkway you can see to ID the type brush.
Most deeper brush piles are put out by experienced fishermen that use hard woods because they last longer.
After enough time on the water brush fishing you can tell how a Tx Rig comes thru it as to what kind of brush is down there.

I'll look at it on my electronics first and select a lure based on the position of the fish. I like to fish the outside edges first with a reaction bait like a DD or square-billed crank. If I know there are fish there but they don't bite right away, I'll experiment with different angles of attack to see if there is a certain line of cast they prefer. Then, I fish deeper into the brush with tx rig or jig until I've thoroughly worked the brushpile over. Again, this assumes I have either marked fish and or bait with my electronics or I'm fishing a pile that has produced for me previously and repeatedly.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.
