Please be specific, don't just say paylaking or doughballing.
I was a freelining doughballer at age 4. lol

I started using spinning rods around 6ft, used sweet corn on a small treble with a small split shot and throwing the bait up around the two dams in waterloo iowa from the bank and hold on. Then i moved up and started using baitcaster with sweet corn on a long shank hook on a c rig free spooling. Then of course i went out with wrjesse and now using the hair rig with my own made baits and big long rods with the alarms and a pod. Think i caught more the old way but havent fished this way in the summer yet lol. mark

Vertical fishing, AKA barge fishing, is uniquely American I should think.
The American version of session fishing is spider rigging.
Where punters are punted.

I just use the same rig I use for pretty much everything else. 6-7 ft spinning rod, 8 lb test, sliding sinker that stops at a swivel about 18 in from the hook. 6 lb test from swivel to hook. Set the drag at about 4 lbs and use one of those rod holders that look like a coil spring on one end and stand the rod straight up. Use a big enough weight to be able to tighten up the line and bend the rod a bit so that it is loaded. Fish tugs, weight slides as rod straightens out setting the hook. Your alarm is the drag.

American Carp fishing... Taking an ultra light rod to Lynn Creek Marina and casting corn on a small hook weighted by just enough split shot to cast to where people feed the carp. catching three or four before they throw you off the barge for casting there. And let me tell you it is a sense of accomplishment to catch a ten pounder on an ultra-light.
