I started out saturday and went to the San Gabriel near Granger in search of some whites. Well the river is flooded, running about 10 feet high. Didn't even attempt to fish there, talked to some people that said nothing at all was being caught.

Ok, next stop Willis Creek. Got there about noon. Took our time getting boots and gear on to fight the MUDDY banks. Tried several spots with no luck and decided to take a break and re-group.

It's now 3 pm. My buddy and I decided to take the long walk back into the woods to the log jam in the creek. We got there and saw 2 guys pulling in fish at a steady rate. We found a spot and started catching fish almost every cast with our fly rods.

We ended up with about 18 fish, not bad for 2 hours of fishing. That number could have been doubled, but that creek is very closed in and full of stumps, and we lost a fly almost every other cast.

The bottom line is, the run is on and in full swing at Willis Creek. Just thought I'd let y'all know that it's alot better than the San Gabriel right now. Tight lines

I had a friend limit Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. I got skunked on most of my trips by boat. He fished on Willis Creek, on sandy ridges along the creek. I am going with him this coming week. I will post...Thank you for the report.

  • You guys have just made me break down and cry with tears of sadness. But finished with tears of joy
  • Thanks a [BILLION] for those reports
  • I fished S.G.R. at 95+29 Friday.1st time there and very impressed even though no takers
  • Then I decided to check-out W.C.The water-conditions looked excellent
  • Worked down-stream from bridge close to the metal steps going over-fence but had no bites
  • I tried to keep telling myself to go farther down-stream
  • But I had found out earlier that C.R.124(access to Irwin Bridge)was open again
  • And just couldn't stop thinking of all that fast-action-white-bass-catching I had back in Jan.
  • So I decided I just had to go try there.Fished about an hour before it got dark.No takers
  • With all said and done.Iwas glad I went
  • Being at least I know now[or believe]it will be another week or more before it picks back-up.Or when Lake drops 3' or more
  • Anyway,Thanks again for those reports[I Just Lo...ve This Forum]
  • Headed to W.C. first thing in the morning.
  • By the way.3535,where you upstream or downstream from bridge?
  • Which log jam are you talking about?
  • There's quite a few?
  • A GPS Waypoint would be even better?
  • Wait a minute, let me think about that?
  • Yeah.....Actually I'd prefer if you didn't tell everyone that
  • It would just be more of a challenge if you didn't
  • And I Love Challenges

I'd like to try it, but I've never been there - any chance I could get some good directions?

Any particular sizes and/or color patterns on the clousers?

FF- I was fishing downstream quite a ways at the big log jam. I don't have GPS, and I wouldn't give it if I had it.

Also The color of the Clousers does not matter much, just bring a bnuch you will loose alot.

Also there is a number you can call that will give you a local report for all of granger lake, including what is being caught or not caught in the San Gabriel and Willis Creek.

(512) 481-LAKE

I should be out there this weekend, and I have all of next week off...those whites better watch out.

Fellas,

Looks like the weather should be pretty good tomorrow - I don't know if the water is warm enough yet, but I'm gonna try it anyhow. I'm going to try the San Gabriel and I think I'll also try to find Willis Creek. Anybody else up for doing a litle fishing? ;-)

FF40, I never got your e-mail...

  • Well the rain finally stop and that bright thing in the sky came out a little after 2p.m.
  • Forgot what's it called
  • Oh,yeah.... "The SUN"
  • Decided to go to W.C. Even knowing I would only be able to fish 2 or 3 hours being it takes me a good hour or more to get there
  • And Go And Figure
  • The water was up at least 3 to 4 feet higher than it was Friday
  • But worst of all the water clarity was terrible. At least for the sandies. But perfect for catfish
  • Being I caught a 13" channel-cat on a 2" yellow curly-tail.Of coarse,it was laced with some garlic spray I just started using
  • Go And Figure
  • At least(I guess)I can say I didn't have no-takers this time
  • Not sure how long it will take for the water to clear-up.Might go back Wed. or Thursday
  • But lately, Just Not Sure When Or Where To Go Anymore
  • But I do know I'm taking Danny-King or Mr. Chicken Livers with me When and Wherever I Go
  • To:flatstick96,not sure why you didn't get my e-mail.I used the one you have listed. And if you tried to e-mail me? I didn't get yours either

Sounds like Willis creek is worth a shot. Last few years haven't been over there, because the river was so good there was no reason to try the creek. I hope I can get out there this week. This weather is crazy.

Went to Willis Creek this morning. No bite whatsoever. I talked to another guy who did not have any luck, either. Maybe some other day...

In the five years that I've lived here, this is the first spring that I've had a lot of free time to fish - what's the deal with the stinking weather?!

Was going to try Willis today, but it sounds like yesterday's rain would make it a wasted trip. Thought about trying the Camp Tejas area instead - anybody know if it's worth it?

EDIT: FF40, you've got mail...

The rain yesterday shouldn't hurt Willis very much. That's why I am fishing the creek this year, it's at almost normal level, while the San Gabriel is very high. Should be out there next monday. Good luck to all.

  • Hey flatstick96
  • I didn't realize you were that new to the forum
  • !!Welcome Aboard!!
  • And thanks for registering and posting the helpful info on Camp Tejas
  • Unfortunely, there are people that take the time to come to this site to try to get helpful info for themselves but aren't willing to take time to try to help others with any of there info
  • I did get your e-mail and replied.Call-me when you get it or reply back and I'll try to call you
  • Not sure when W.C. will clear-up as posted yesterday
  • But thinking of going back sometime tomorrow if I don't go to Reimer's on the Pedernales River
