Sometimes I look to use a bait that heavily pressured fish haven't seen too often in hopes of triggering a strike. Something I don't see or hear of too many people using much any more is the Beetle Spin. I used these all the time when I was a kid and every so often I will pull one out and I usually get bit. The little grasshopper shaped hard crank is another.
What's a bait that you go to when you are looking to throw something that you hope the bass haven't seen too often if at all?

You have discovered the same thing I have. For nstance, I bet 90% of Bass today, have never seen a Chugger, or pico pop. The reason some of these new "hot" lures are so hot are because fish havent seen it. They havent seen the old stuff either. Those good old classic stand-by's in the "extra" tackle box in the garage is a good place to go back to and re-think what you are throwing.

Yeah I have been thinking about this alot more recently because we all know the most popular and commonly used lures have become associated with a painful lip stretch among the fish. The biggest reason why I love bass fishing is because they are such a resilient and intelligent fish which makes them a great sportfish.
So looking into that 20 year old little blue snoopy tackle box my dad gave me when I was 6 may just be rewarding. It definitely was then, so why wouldn't it be now?

I normally tie on one of the 3/8s Yellow Magics that I have. Since they stopped production of them, they are HARD to find (the originals, not some of the refurgs off of ebay). Those work GREAT, or even a Tiny Torpedo, too. I also have a couple of boxes full of hand made crankbaits, Stanford Cedar Shad, Dee Baits, and others. Those often work when everything else is not getting any responses.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Dreamweaver, I might be able to find you some of those worms, if you are interested. An old standby of mine is the Mepps aglia spinner.

David I have a buddy of mine back home in Virginia that buys these by the case. They are deadly on the Potomac and I still carry a few for the winter. I catch a lot of sandies with them when they are mixed in with the black bass but the blacks I catch are pretty good fish.

Yep, the Mepp's are always a sure bet as are the grape and yellow tail worms from BPS.

Last yr I busted out the Grape/fire tail Mr. Twisters, and took fourth in a tourney, but caught more fish than anyone that day. They weren't big ones, but sometimes numbers are all that matter.
