I was on Lake Cooper yesterday before the rain hit and caught about 30 sandbass & hybrids.

Nothing real big. It was fun catching that many fish.

I primarily fish just for black bass and pretty much fish Lake Fork only. My question is....are there sandbass in Lake Fork?

I enjoyed catching that many fish and every once in awhile might like a day of catching tons of sandbass with a guide and was wondering if I could do that on Fork?

i am not sure but i was told that there are no sandbass in lake fork; only yellow bass. That is one reason that the largemouth are so big they dont have to compete with large amounts of sandbass.

people have also told me there are no sandbass in Fork but I know I've caught a few while crappie fishing there. I've also caught more yellow bass than I like to admit. The sanbass that i've caught out of Fork have been pretty large though (only about 4 or 5). Maybe there is a creek where Tawakoni feeds into Fork and that might be how they get in. I know Hubbard insn't the best fishing lake but I've killed the sandies over there. In the last 2 weeks I've brought home about 140 sandies from night fishing on Hubbard.

If I was going to get a guide to fish for sandbass it definately would not be in fork. There are too many good lakes in this area with great guides that could put you on sandbass/hybrids/stripers.

Sharon....in your opinion....what is the closest lake to North Dallas.....that has great sand bass and/or hybrid fishing where I could hire a guide? Is Lake Ray Hubbard known for this?....because I can be to Hubbard in less than 30 minutes!

There are a few, (very few) sand bass in Lake Fork. The Lake Record Sand Bass was caught there this Spring. There are lots of Yellow Bass, however.

Tawakoni is a great sand bass, hybrid, and striped bass lake. It's just about 15 minutes from Lake Fork. Hubbard has very good sand bass lake, too. At this time of the year, just look for seagulls hitting the water. You can bet the sandies are close by. Throw rattle traps, small sassy shads and slabs. You can get slabs at Holiday Marina on the south side of the dam.

Fork has not been stocked with sand bass, but I am sure some were in the river when the dam was finished. There are some bar fish in Fork that I used to see while bow fishing there.

Itszep,

Give me a call if you want to get on what I believe to be the "BEST" Sandbass Lake in Texas. Richland Chambers!!!! CC & Tawakoni have it beat for Hybrids, but 365 days a year RC beats them on Whites. All on Slabs, Topwater & other Artificial Baits and NO Trolling!

There are lots of good sandbass lakes in the North Metroplex area: Lewisville, Grapevine, Bridgeport, Roberts, Tawakani, Cedar Creek, Richland Chambers, etc.

Personally, if I were hiring a guide to go out with and not pulling a boat, I would go to Cedar Creek with John Varner or Steve Bradbury. Most likely you will get on some hybrids, also.

I don't know about the sand bass in fork I was told there was none. Have only fished it once with "lotafish" and I can sure tell you he can catch the yellow bass. He has earned the nickname
MR. YELLOWBASS.

Drop it in front of them and they will eat it!!!

I was eating breadkfast at oakridge not to long ago and over heard one of the guides complaining about his client catching 2 sandbass, not yellow bass but sandbass.
I've never caught any but i've heard alot of ppl mention sandies on fork over the past year or so.
They say there are no sandies on Purtis Creek but the warden there will tell you different, last time i was there i saw what i thought was sandes schooling and i asked them at the gate, and was told yes somehow they got in there and that if i caught any to take them home, they where not to happy about them being there.
