I just made me another one this past weekend. I did a variation though...I put TWO #13 Pet's on the back end hanging off of a 3 way swivel that attaches to the back of the Hellbender (Hedon). One of the pets is hanging about 3 feet back, the other about 4.5 feet back.
One warning...do NOT use generic or off brands, use the Hedon Hellbender. If you don't, the thing will fall apart.

He is right, the generic one is junk. However if it is the only thing available, use superglue to glue in the eyelets for your weight as well as the trailer behind the hellbender. Honestly, I do not troll this time of year, no need to do when Sandies are more than willing to bite slabs. They are also a little deeper right now, 20 ft. or so. Now mid summer is a different story.

Triton, I use hellpets often on hubbard in the summer and do real well with them.. It the fall and winter the hellpet's do not produce that well. I have been doing well in these times trolling a 200 series bandits. Splatterback is my color of choice right now. I have been out 3 times since february and have not got a hit on my hellpet. ALmost everything has been coming off of the 200-300 series bandits.

Yes Hell Pet is poorman's downriggers........but remember for about $149 you can buy the small Canon manual downrigger.......it will mount easily on your pontoon boat. Then you can troll ANY lure you have at any debth.......precisely where the fish are. Downriggers are the way to go .......... think of them like 2 medium priced rods and reels and they last virtually forever and can be repaired locally if they ever break. I would recommend either Canon or Walker brand downriggers.

I use a silver blue fox with the white feather. Pretty much anything shiny with a hook on it will work.

By the way this is a really weird time of year to be using this rig, you would probably do a lot better on slabs.

Why a Pet Spoon? because it works? Really the Pet Spoon wobbles back and forth instead of spinning like most other spoons and twisting the line up. Lots of FLASH also.

You can get the small ones at Academy. I buy the bigger ones from Oshmans or off the internet.
I run downriggers but I will still use pet spoons on a downrigger because they catch fish. I also use bucktail jigs and other lures for trolling.
