has anyone ever caught a fish on catfish charle or those shad packs ? Lots and lots! Back in the 60s me and Bob Boyer used to fish Denison Dam....right up next to the gates. Some were too big to pull up "the wall" and would break off before getting by others fishing farther down. Tubs of Charlie were the ticket. I prefer fresh shad nowadays and have a skilled accomplice that can net a bucket full in an hour or two before heading out. But when I can't get shad I catch channels and blues on dough bait.....Catfish Charlie as well as the shad packs and a dozen other prepared baits. One thing about a catfisherman....he is versatile. If one thing is not working he will move to the next bait...and the next...until he finds the magic stuff!

I have never had luck with prepared dough ball baits.. I have caught channel cats in the local ponds with catfish charlie though... Not a bad bait, but there are much better out there....... much better..

Lately I only catfish occasionally on a private lake. I've used the dough balls before on lakes and had OK luck with them. Most of the time they come off the hook too quick. Recently I have been using dip baits (from WalMart) and had good luck with them. You need one of the sponge treble hooks or something to hold the bait, but regular treble hooks will work too. I have been using the Hog Wild blood dip bait with good results. I'll probably try a different one when this one runs out soon.
Last time I was out there a few of us built a fire near the water and were sitting around drinking and fishing. I had two poles so I lent one to another guy. We used the same exact setup (and bait) and were casting to within 5 feet of each other. He caught a dozen or so fish and I didn't catch a single one, just a couple of misses was all I had.
In space, nobody can hear you scream for ice cream.

I keep both in the hull of my yak in case fresh bait is scarce. Been using the Catfish Charlie since the 60's. If I am just fishing for eating size fish, CC is my "go-to". I have some of the popular punch baits that require special hooks, but really haven't seen any difference. Then again I don't get to fish either that much. Bait has been cooperative this last year or so.

the catfish charlie thats pre molded in the plastic package/bag works better than cut bait at my grandmothers tank's. I bait jug's with it & have had bait stay on over night. it doesnt fall off for me. I like it for tanks real good. But i mainly fish the brazos, and i use cut buffalo/shad/bluegill/drum/creek chub's there. But yea catfish charlie isn't bad, the shad at wal mart i have never tryed

i got a couple of the shad packs from walmart on sale and have used them a couple times with no success. I stayed out for 6 hours last night and got nothing but the guys there using cut bait and liver were doin well. I'm over using em and just gonna go to live bait or liver from now on i think

Me too turtle--I went for 2 hours off the bank at lake Waxahachie Thursday with secret 7 and worms--fished about 20 minutes each time before moving and the same Friday at a rock pit and pulled a zero both places.
( The worms were from Walmart)

Tried both with no success. I was just told by a buddy to use bread and cheezwiz! I'll try anything once! When y'all mention liver, are you just getting beef liver from the supermarket and cutting it into squares?
