I have a few eastern red cedars that grow in my property that resemble Christmas trees. Does anyone know if will hurt if I put one or two of these in my pond for structure? I cut a few down over the weekend and noticed sap coming from the cut areas. Poisonous for fish?

That's exactly what I use. They make great structures and are long lasting. I've never had a problem with them (except forgetting where I put them)...but moderation in ponds is usually a good approach.

like the old saying, everything in moderation, including moderation itself!
The sap is part of the reason it will last longer than other trees, kind of like treated lumber. I say stack em in, and yes, try to remember where you put them. lol
Best of luck

thanks for the input guys. When I placed my Christmas trees in the pond this year, i tied a duck decoy to each tree to let me know where they are. So far it has worked like a champ. I put one tree in kinda shallow (5ft) and the top was still sticking up some along with the decoy, but with all the rain, just the decoy is showing. Decoys look neat sittin out there by themselves. Another 2+ inches of rain and I think my pond will be topped off. Its been 2.5 years since Ive seen it full. Im pumped.

That's a great idea for the duck decoy!!

and heck it might even attract a duck now and then.

Great idea. Duck decoys gotta look much better than old bleach jugs floating around out there. I was using inflatable dolls.
