I had my transmission rebuilt Aug 08 after pulling a guy out in reverse. It's been running great but about a month or so ago started noticing a vibration, not from the wheels, around 40 mph. It comes a goes so I haven't been to concerned. Today driving back to Wichita from Decatur, it started kind of lunging going about 70. I made it home checked the fluid it was full, by then it was dark and the trucks pretty dirty so I didn't care to crawl under. Anyone ever had this happen? I've been running ethanol free gas and had to fill up in Nocona on the way back with some high priced regular, could that be it?

When you are running down the road like this, try just barely pushing down the the brake pedal. This will disengage the torque converter. If it goes away, the torque converter is the issue. Could also be the egr valve. Lots of other things could be the cause also. Could be ignition related especially with all the recent moisture and temp swings.

ruh roh... ujoints or the low/reverse planetary gear set in the trans has come apart. if the ujoints are good, pull the trans pan and look for metal pieces/bearing parts...
the gear set will come apart and sound like you mentioned, while still maintaining red fluid (mechanical failure, and not clutch failure). clutch burning would make the fluid dark and smell like chit.

Well went fishing tonight couldn't even catch a buzz, too dang cold. But the truck did not want to be pulling the boat, when it started doing its vibration I taped the break and it'd go away for a sec come back, tap the break and so on. So how hard is it to put in a torque converter, or what tools do you HAVE to have to make it easier.

May I offer some advise here Brian. Get your truck diagnosed by someone that knows what they are doing, with the proper scanner to read they codes and look at all the data. There are a lot of smart people in here and we all want to help BUT if your SES (service engine soon) is on you need to get it scanned. It could be a simple as a bad 02 sensor, fuel filter, or tuneup. That is the proper way to do it. If I remember correctly I think SkeeterRonnie has a scanner to do such a thing. I strongly recommend you get this done ASAP!
When in doubt SET THE HOOK!

If its a 2wd its an ok job to replae the TC but u have to pretty much drop the trans and the same with a 4wd the TC just locks on to the trans but u still have to drop the trans thats the best way to do it IMO

Well, took it to a guy here in Wichita, got it traced down to maybe a burnt valve or stuck spring. Cylinder 6 had about 110 lbs and the rest about 180 on a compression test. Found a better price in Nocona so pulled the heads off there to get milled and what ever else they do. Got my parts in yesterday, hope to get it back this next weekend.
I recon your better off letting the pro's deal with things like this. The best thing I head was, "Oh good, your service engine soon lights on." What????
