Does anyone know if you can get to Henrietta Hole by Canoe "during the spawn in spring" from:
1) 377?
2) 114 where I believe Henrietta Creek crosses 114?
3) Any other areas that would be good to get a canoe through would be helpful.
Just thinking ahead to spring time.
Plus I have a brand new canoe I havent even launched yet.
Thanks

Hey Cane pole..... I dont know where Henrietta Hole is, but I would love to know of some places to go in a canoe. I have a 17ft that I have not put to use in a while. If you find something let me know, and maybe we can hook up. I also have an allimunim boat with a 25hp motor that could be used to toe a canoe. Use it to get somewhere and then bank it and get into the canoe.

You can put a canoe in @ 377. It would probably take some carrying to get it to the water. It is a pretty good row to get to Henrietta Hole. Good luck if you go.
Yes I did admit defeat. Good job back to back champion

Cane Pole,
You would be closest to go in from 377. It's a little more than a mile, all upstream. If you don't have a motor it will be a long trip. You can also get there from 35E but it's an even longer trip. It would be a good canoe ride for sure. It's probably faster to walk in from the West off Cleveland Gibbs Rd. Walk time is about 25 minutes. If you have a GPS unit you can check the distance yourself. GPS coordinates are: N33 01.742 W97 13.851
Good luck,

I just entered those coordinates into the maptech site and it shows to be a point on land (but the site doesn't seem to be too accurate). Is H Hole where Elizabeth creek flows into Denton Creek?

No, it is where Henrietta Creek merges with Denton Creek.

Having taken a boat to Henrietta Hole many times in the past, I would have to recommend parking a vehicle at 377 and launching your canoe at 35. The trip is about 3 miles from 377 and a 36lbs trolling motor want pull those shallows and I would not try it with a paddle. You should be able to float from 35 and it is about 4 miles to henrietta creek. I have not been past henrietta by boat this year and don't know if you can get thru but you should be able to. I guess with a light canoe you could walk around most of the shallows, but you would be pretty tired after fighting that current for that distance. Henrietta hole is easy to recognize it is a round hole about 6-12 ft deep and looks like 3 creeks meet in one spot with henrietta creek being the smaller of the three.

Jacky,
The spot you were fishing on Sunday morning is almost as far as you can go by boat. I know of at least 2 spots that the entire width of the creek isn't but about 6-12" deep. I know that I was back at the hole for several hours Sunday and no one at all came by me. That is pretty rare, as usually there are boats and bankers at the hole...
Cane Pole,
Putting in at 35 would definitely be your best bet. The canoe would probably float over the tops of the gravel in the really shallow spots, as long as you walked it through. There is no way you could ride it over them. Also, there are several lay downs that seem unpassable in a jon boat, but a canoe.... perhaps.

I spun my prop trying to get thru the last shallow before henrietta hole last weekend. I can get thru there now. I can run in about 8" of water with my motor. The lay downs I drive over and the foot kicks out of the water but the forward momentum takes me over those. In the past I would beach and pull the boat thru those shallows. Right now it a little cold to wade and a little hot to wear waders. And Sunday I didn't need to get that far up stream anyway.

I am going to try this trip in a Kayak. They float in 3 inches of water. They are easy to pull and drag over any gravel bar or around/over a laydown tree. And if it is to shallow to paddle, then I just hike up the stream pulling my yak behind me.
Breathable wader's are a little expensive, but they do work fine in various weather conditions. They would do just fine on a day like today or in 30 degree temps. Only down side is you have to be careful as to not puncture them on brush.
I paddle up stream on the Brazos all the time in to 800/1000 cfs stream flow with no issue's. However, the Brazos is a much wider section of water than Denton Creek. I see where the stream flow is around 200 cfs on the Justin gage's for Denton Creek. So not really much water flowing to contend with in regards to paddling.
If you all have run Jon's with gas or trolling motor's up to Henrietta Hole or pulled and waded them, then I would bet I could do this in my Yak. I would bet there will probably be more walking and pulling the yak through shallows then paddling. If the bottom was really muddy verses gravel and firm, then it might not be possible.
I thought I would start at Hwy 377 and go up stream. It takes me around 30 mins to cover 1.5 miles on a slow to slack water. If I really get after the paddle, then I could cover around 2.5 miles in 30 mins. But, then again I do like to troll a bait as I paddle, so I won't be breaking any world speed records.
I really hope it doesn't rain to much this week! Sure looks nice outside today.

Several years ago, before 114 was rebuilt near Roanoke, I would put my canoe in Henrietta Creek at the point where the original 114 crossed the water. There were several portage points, but you could get to Henrietta Hole. Actually, when the water in Denton Creek was high, the fishing in Henrietta Creek south of the Hole was exceptional. You could probably do the same trip today, however, if you parked off of 114 you may return to find a ticket on your car's window.

Is it possible to use two vehicles? one to drop off and the other to pick up somewhere downstream. I use to do this on the San Gabriel all the time.

Cane Pole,
Well according to your other post, looks like you survived the rounds of 22's.
So did you catch any fish?
Did you paddle or did you go in a motor boat?
