I have had hooks in my hands several times.. had two that had to be removed at the hospital because they were buried way past the barb ... after long boat rides and drives in to town.. in both cases, cut the hooks off in my hand at the lake and then had them removed at the hospital... a $100 bucks or so each time... Once fished most of the day with an eigth inch of hook left from a rattle trap sticking out of my palm.

But, the worst tale was 30 years or sgo at DeGray Lake in Arkansas... way out in the boonies, camping on the back side... had been fishing Saturday and Sunday and monitoring the weather, a front blew in with a huge thunderstorm.. raced to the Corp Park, loaded the boat and was gathering up the gear... had a rod sitting next to tree with a hammock tied in it... undid the hammock rope and whipped it around the tree, knocking the rod tip into my ear.. it had a Baby Tiny Torpedo on it... trebble hook went into my ear, barb was below the surface in the gristel of the ear.. really hurt...especially when the rod was flopping around. But, my buddy cut the hook in two with side cutters and we drove 60 miles or so to Little Rock.

Got home and was determined not to go to the hospital again, so told him to get the pliers and push it though or pull it out.. I took a couple of swigs of Jack Daniels, stretched out on the bed, buried my face in a pillow while he tried to push the hook through.. after a few minutes he gave up, the end of the hook was too short to work with. He went outside said he couldn't do it... I got my wife to get a razor blade and cut my ear so she could get the hook out.. barb buried in the gristel... she straddled my back... and then she sliced my ear and pulled it out, I screamed with my face in the pillow, my buddy left the house went for beer cause he couldn't stand it... I just can't remember exactly how many times she had to slice me.

Much more careful now a days.

My partner cracked three ribs diving for his rod when it was jerked out of his hand by a vengeful bass.

Deck hand off Port Aransas trying to brain a small shark on the rail of the boat. Tail slipped out of his hand when he swung and it went flying by me but luckily it stopped when the second drop hook went through my shin.

I think worm lead in the back coming loose off a snag is worse than a hook stuck in you because you know it's coming.

Those things are just bad news. I'll take a hook in the finger over this one.

Same thing happened to me with a 1/2oz lead weight one night. I thought I was shot from the sound it made when it broke loose from the snag & hit me. LOL

For whatever reason I like to just fall into the water whether warm or cold. In the last 2 years some of my favorites.

Caynon lake climbing on the ledges and fishing about 5 feet high doing a combo rock climbing and fishing foot slips and into the water I go. Some scrapes here and there

Amistad I love to wear shorts so even knowing there are catus and thorn bushes I still wear shorts and rip my legs apart.

Yegua creek the banks still a bit muddy got on a nice slope and knew I was in some trouble took a dive into the creek and while not listening to myself to wear pants because of the thorn ripped my legs apart again, when wet its really hurts.

The hospital visits was as a kid (10) got a small hook stuck in my big toe. I tried to take it out myself using siccors which did not work. So dad took me to ER to get it taken out.
Another visit to the ER was pier fishing in Biloxi I was just chillin no shoes on a wooden pier slid my feet to get comfortable and had about 20-30 pieces of wood in my foot most small with one big 3" piece. So again went to the ER to get the removed.
Ah the good times.

My girlfriend and I were fishing at Fork one morning, I was smacking them on a Pico Pop! She was in the front of the boat fishing some pads when I had a fish blow up, waited till I felt the fish and set the hook. Bait came flying back and I hollered heads up.....
She turned around with the bait stuck in her cheek (barely) and embedded in her nose.... Trip to Quitman and they got it out w/out too much problem.
Needless to say, I felt bad. (ruined the hooks on a good bait, lol)

Oh yea, we celebratd 23yrs together this past Thursday!

My wife and I fishing in our pond when I hooked a branch. The branch broke off and was surfacing, I knew better, but it was the first time I used this lure so I was triing hard not to break the line. I guess the pictures explain the rest.

And I still use it with 2 hooks on the back

I saw an injury at the Red River Everstart a while back. A co-angler got his worm hung on a stump right at water level. No way to get to it so he started pulling and pulling.

The T-rig came loose and hit him in the stomach. When he lifted his shirt, all you could see was the line tie of his worm hook (even with the skin). The 4/0 hook was completely inside.

I have cut a lot of baits off since then.

Decided to take a quick trip to Benbrook one Saturday when the kiddos started pestering me to take them with. Agreed to after sufficient pestering. We got there and took off across the lake in my 16' Tracker.

Son (10) loves to fish, but isn't very good - gets hooked up a lot. Daughter (7) hates to fish, but can't stand being left behind. Found the spot I wanted to fish and Son and I started throwing our lines in.

We're fishing maybe 30 minutes when I hear Daughter yell out. I turn around just in time to see Son trying to cast forward with his spinner-bait stuck in Daughter's cheek, just under her eye. I was able to stop him before he ripped it our of her. Got both of them calmed down and was able to finally cut the barb off with some pretty dull needle-nose pliers.

Finally got them both back to the house with wife suggesting I take her to the doctor for possible stitches/antibiotics. After checking in at the minor emergency clinic, I overheard the docs trying to figure out how to get a hook out - I chuckled and said I already did that - patch her up!

Thankfully, Daughter only has a small scar for the incident. She has since declined to go fishing on the boat. Son still gets hung up - but now we joke that he's had the biggest catch of all - an 80 pound Sister!

This reminds me, I still need to get a better pair of pliers.
