I was fishing the Guadalupe yesterday down river from Rio Raft by the first set of falls if you know the area. Anyways I walking up stream and watching the cars of the bridge waiting on my wife. A small car hits the side of the bridge and flips over into the water (20-25 foot drop). At the time there were two others fishing between me and the bridge. I take off my waders and other gear run up to the crash site and thankfully she was already out of the car and was seemed alright. Bloody hands, cuts of forehead, shoulder pain. I was able to get her hands covered and towels from rio raft to help her stay warm. At that point both shock and hypotherma was a big concern. It was the craziest thing I have ever seen and whats the scariest is I have fished right where she landed and my son has played on the bank in that area.

Too bad it happened but if someone dunks their car off that bridge they were more than likely doing something wrong.... REALLY wrong. I would say that you may actually have to WANT to drive off that bridge for it to happen. When she hit the side of the bridge did the guard rail give way or did her car somehow hop over the rail? Either way, she's alright and there's more cover for the trout to hide under.

If fished there also and it's a narrow bridge and not much in the way of a rail, mainly a curb. For one thing people drive way too fast on that road, and the speed limit is usually ignored.

Glad she is alright, and you guys reacted fast, so my hat is off to you and those who helped.

There is no guardrail there only a small concret raise that is maybe 1 1/2-2 feet high. The cops told me they could not put up guardrails because when the river floods like in 98 and 02 it would wash away the bridge. Another note the fishing was really bad. I lost one 12-13" at the second falls at the head of the island the other fishers had one bite.

It's the weather we've been having that has effected the bite. Not many insects are going to be hatching and buzzing around in this kind of weather.

Wait for a good sunshine day, and I'll bet it picks up a lot!

I had to get out of the house for one and we only have about a month left in Texas so hitting as much water as I can. I would have perferred going down to Choke but I know the bank bass bite would be VERY SLOW if anything. The creeks at Sommerville are flooded so just twiddleing my thumbs and doing chores kills me.
I will say from Dec to now the bite has gotten slower each time. Talked to one guy camping out at rio for last 2 months has the same feeling going from 3 trout a day to 1 every other day. Either they have moved, got very picky/full, or what he sees people using live bait/powerbait in the special reg area and killing/keeping fish.

That is an amazing story... and it didn't even include "... and it got away before I could take a picture..."

That is pretty crazy. Good on you for doing something and not just bystanding. It seems people willing to help other people is the exception rather than the rule sometimes.

welcome aboard chris

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
