TRUE STORY... happened in early 90's on Rayburn Here's one that did not happen to me, but I did remove the hooks from the fellow! It's kinda long, but what a story! I had my mom with me, throwing topwaters around grasslines. We heard someone hollering, but we both thought someone had caught a good one or something, but whoever it was, they were out of our sight. A few minutes went by and we still hear the hollering, so I turned the troll motor up to move around the point and see what was going on. When I got to where I could see, there was a man in boat on the next point, waving one arm and screaming loudly! We motored over to him to see what was going. (here comes the good part) he had caught a decent fish on a Long-A. While trying to unhook the fish, one set of trebles hung in the palm of his hand (the fish is still attached)In an attempt to free himself or the fish...whichever would come first.... he put the fish between his legs, so he could work with one his one free hand! Needless to say, he also now has a hook buried in the inside of his thigh! (this is where I come in) So I get there, he describes his troubles, and I offer to help. I got in his boat and was looking the situation over to figure out where to start. (now I also have to add that this guy was wearing cut-off jeans with a blown out crotch (no drawers) So here I am, trying to free this guy from the fish, and 2 sets of trebles (string trick does not apply) all the while working around what appears to be a baby oppossum hanging out of his britches! After a few minutes, and a few tears on his part, me and him were both freed from our situation. When all was said and done we were all three embarassed, but relieved that it was over!
My personal best (worst) is a W/G worm hook to my eyelid.... very close call!

The worst injury I ever sustained was taking a crappie jig in the mouth. We were fishing jigs on a bridge when I hooked a fish and began to bring it up just like we had been doing all day. All of sudden the hook poped out of the fishes mouth and like a sling shot the crappie jig went flying straight up and nails me hook first in the mouth. I wish I still had pics of how this hook was lodged in the side my cheek. It took 6-7 shots of whiskey and a lot of force but I was able to push the barb the rest of the way through my cheek cut off the barb and then pulled it out. My wife still has the crappie lure as a keep sake. It was pretty funny and all my buddies told me that day if it can happen it will happen to Jay
Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

Many moons ago in the 14' aluminum with the girlfriend. Hung up a spinnerbait and when I yanked it free that thing put a target on my nads and nailed me dead center. I crumpled to the floor and start moaning. At the time were were fairly new together and she was not at the point of applying any love to the wounded parts. Lesson learned, never sit facing a hung up bait with your legs apart, always turn the body.
Second one was the Rogue in the back, 3 of us all big bodies in a 14' aluminum, Big Dave(RIP) gets hung up and instead of going to get it yanks on it, comes loose, hits me in the back like a bullet and buries a hook past the barb, he starts wiggling it thinking it is in my shirt. Rest of the story, his brother cuts the hook and pushes it through.

Last year about this time i was fishing a tourney on LOP and throwing red traps, towards the end of the day got it snagged on some grass close to the top of the water... i popped it a few times and it just so happen to come free and flying right at me.. ended up witha the barb of the hook about a half inch deep in my calf... had to cut a hole in my jeans and close just to get it out of that part.. then my dad tells me he knows a trick to get it out.. and i asked him if he ever done it before and he said "no, but i seen it work on TV"... i was like o great, but he ended up getting it out with the string trick, what i call it, after about four tries and it getting buried deeper and deeper in my calf..

Them Traps hurt.. I got hit with one when a partner got hung up. I was back seating this one and never knew the bait was headed my way at WARP 10 until I heard a sizzling sound.. just nanoseconds before impact. I saw him duck and bang it hit me flat in the right lower abdomen. It felt like I had been shot in the guts! It's a mystery that I did not get a hook in me? I did have a whelp 1/4" high in the perfect out line of a 1/2oz Trap (fin and all :nuts) that hurt like a Bumble Bee Sting for hours. This happened around 11AM but the afflicted skin was still red and swollen at 4PM when we got the weigh-in results.

Didnt happen to me, but a funny story.
A buddy of mine was fishing in the back of a boat with another guy and the guy was throwing a 3/4oz jig on a river channel. He went to cast and heard a big thump in the back of the boat. He turned around to find his partner on his knees on his way to a face plant. He knocked him completely unconcious! He woke quickly and was P.O'd!!! Good laughs though

Was fishing with Bazztex in a Media tourney a couple years back and after getting my bait unstuck I was returning to the back of the boat and ended up crashing and burning on the gear shift. This was good for a cracked rib or two.
Bazz told me I was not the first person to do that. He has that seat in the middle booby-trapped. If you ever fish with him, watch out for that.

Last fall on Pat Mayse. tied on a new crank bait and when I went to throw it overboard the back hook stuck on my shirt and the front hook buried in my pinkie. Didn't know the string trick so i just nutted up and pushed it thru.

Copied from My other post, i have had hooks in me 2 times, but as a kid.
When i was a kid i used to ride a bike to a lake after school, on weekends and sometimes while skipping classes. Over 1 of the hills on this 1 mile trek was a house that had a St Bernard who really must not have liked bikes, cause he would always run out after us. Eventually we got a routine where my friend and i would be really quiet near the top of the hill before the dog and then haul butt past him before he could get up. Once my friend took off 1st, rods sitting sideways across his handlebars, then i too took off, not remembering i just got a new 10 speed that was much faster than the old bike, i flew past him with what felt like 40 mph when i felt a sharp pain and could hear his drag going like crazy. I had buried his top water rapala in my stomach as i passed. Later he ask why i didnt stop, i reminded him of the dog.
