Have not seen very many reports on Amistad, anybody been lately. we will be down there Feb 19-21. Is the spawn on yet or are they staging up? What kind of pattern can I expect? What's the best place on the lake to stay the weekend?

Im guessing if weather picks up and warms up a little and their not quite up hit alot of secondary points did that last year before the fish moved up and did very good.

These fronts are keeping very many fish from moving up any. More of a winter pattern for me with a few fish moving up during the day just to get pushed back again. Big tourney that weekend so may be some traffic.
Dropshot probably the best bet for bites when you find them on your graph.

One of my buddies was killing them with a DD22 around 20 - 30 ft at San pedro. He caught around 8 with the best weighting 8.66# until we had an unfortunate accident and broke the rod. From there it was pretty slow but we did manage to put 3 -4 small fish in with senkos and dragging a 6" lizard.

Without a doubt, it is still my favorite lake. I'm headed to Falcon in March, so I hope she can change my mind!

I fished Amistad for the first time this past weekend. On sat., the big females began moving up into staging areas and could be caught in depths of 2-12 feet! However, nasty weather pushed in on sundy and the fish pulled way back.
Sunday, we caught lots of fish though all males in the 1-3 lb range! Most of our fish came off the dropshot in depths as shallow as 17 ft and as deep as 48 ft. Mostly in the 20-30 ft range though! Dropshot had to be dead sticked. Bite was fast if you were on top of fish.
This weekend the water ranged anywhere from 54 to 57 degrees. Science says that the LMB's metabolism speeds up around 58* and the males start to move up. Usually the females arent too far behind. Here in TX, I usually start to see action start when temps hit the low 60s, by 64 it should be on!
Remember, the big girls always seem to spawn first so dont be scared to look early! Once the water hits in the 60s, wait for the first full moon, then go looking. Moon plays huge role too!
Amistad seemed to be a little warmer than Choke Canyon is this year, I dont know if that has been because of the under ground spring or what. But Choke has been very cold!
Good Luck!
