For those of you in the Ft. Hood area of beautiful central Texas it seems that most of Belton and Stillhouse's public access points are closed.
Ceder Gap on Stillhouse is open but if you're bank fishing (like me) you'll have a hell of a time dealing with the massive mats of timber. I ran into a guy putting in a boat yesterday and he's swearing by Tequila Sunset Berkley 7" worms out there now.

I wish they would do something with all that timber at cedar gap. They are letting a lot of water out at the spillway right know so hopefully people can start fishing by the bridge and cedar gap. I went out to the belton spillway and they are not letting any water out (as of last sunday). have you checked out the bank access at gravel crossing?
Life is a beach, i'm just playing in the sand.

Gravel Crossing was going to be my suggestion also, Nice & semi-protected from the environment. Not really going to be very productive yet until the White's start schooling & running up the River. Go to the Sportsman's Center on post & get your Area Access and Map, go down to the center of T/A 8 on Cowhouse Creek, real nice bank access and pretty good fishing... in a couple weeks.
Even under the Cowhouse Bridge on East Range Rd.
Water is Turbid & High right now, give it a couple weeks.

Yeah, I went to Gravel Crossing and it's pretty bad too. I guess it's possible to fish but bank access there is fairly muddy and difficult.
I haven't been back to Cowhouse since I got back from Iraq but summer 2008 I loved that place.
The other ponds on Hood look much the same. Heiner and Larned level's are the same they were when I was there on R&R in September. Engineer Lake is pretty high. I have fished all three in the past few days, no luck.

Come in on Brookhaven Road, Take a left @ the T, .2 miles take another Left (The only 1 that actually looks like a Road) where all the used concertina wire is piled up & follow it down to the river PV315518
I might take a gander down that way Sunday after I get off work, Weather should recover by then.
I don't bother with most of the Lakes/Ponds on post much anymore, If your in Cove, come in the back gate behind Wal-Mart, about 3/4 mile cross the cattleguard, head down to Clear Creek lake with some Chicken Liver, I've seen many many 3-5lb cats come out of there off the Point on the NW side

Is this what you are talking about?

As for the Clear Creek Lake, my wife and I drove around looking for access to Copperas Cove Lake #3 but we couldn't find it. Could you post a googlemaps link for me?
I skunked out for bass on Heiner Lake a few days ago. Rain, cold, everything. Terrible.
