Is that perch pond in the park off limits to adults? I keep seeing it mentioned as good fishing for kids. That is the one they dumped in the trout a few weeks ago. That is the closest stocking site to my house and was thinking of giving it a shot so my wife could fish without a license.

It's open to everyone. I went up there a couple weeks ago right after they stocked the pond with the 1000 trout. I was actually planning on fishing the main lake inside the park but the lady at the gate told me about the pond so I tried it out. I didn't have any luck myself with jigs and roostertails and the store was out of small minnows. The other two guys that were there said they had some luck the day before with small minnows. One guy said he caught a few off power bait corn. None of us caught anything for the hour I was there but they were definitely jumping.

Thanks, I may give it a shot then next weekend to see if we can drag any stragglers out. I will try to tie up some flies and see how they produce.

Adults have been elbow to elbow since stocking there. If there are any trout left, they are either very small or very big.

Well I may reconsider until next year when they dump again. I will look for another stocking site so I can hit it when it is fresh.

I took my little one there in Nov. I was told by a gaurd it dried up in July so there isn't any fish in there, other than the trout just put in. The gaurd told me they were planning to make it deeper or just clean it out, and then they would stock it with perch. The pond filled up with the late rains in fall so they ended up just leaving it as is.

You forgot to mention that a Black Bass isn't really a bass at all. Just keep it simple.
If you must know their is a fish named the Rio Grand Perch. Damm even the TPWD site calls a Cichlid a Perch, you better get on the phone and correct them too.
