Not that I want to use them to often, I want to find a way to have a light set handy.
Sometime I've been 45 mins to an hour back in a creek and I had to leave the fish to get back before dark. Does anyone have an idea or a rig that can give me some ideas? Thanks!

15.00 hat lights at Sporting Good stores always do the trick for me.

Is it necessary to have the red and green lights on a kayak?

You do not need red and green lights on a kayak. You do however need a light that can be seen from 360 degrees. A simple headlamp will not cut it. I use a River Rock K2 lantern that I picked up a Target for $25. It is extremely bright and runs on one LED so battery usage is minimal. That lantern is attached to a 3/4" pcv pipe about 3.5' long that way it is over my head when sitting. Remember the light isn't there for you it's there for the powerboats that can't see you. Here is the link to the TPWD website for kayak and canoe requirements. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/safety/vessel_requirements/#canoe

If you are looking for one like tworod posted. Check your local Walmart. The one near me has them on clearance.

academy & walmart have stern lights. if its a 360 degrees style light like whats required by TPWD make sure you mount it behind you and high so it will shine over & around you. if you put it up front it will shine in your face and blind you depending on how bright it is. make sure its LED.

. Here is how I attached my 360 deg light. See the last photos. It stores in the yak while I'm on the water during daylight. I also take a 4 "D" cell flashlight with a wide beam and use my front bungie cords to hold it to the yak as a headlight. I've attached a climbing/rope clip thru the handle & thru the bungie cord to keep it from falling off the yak. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...ckl#Post4313879The Ledbetter Legend .
