Weather was great but the fishing was very slow. I trolled the coves around Cranes Mill ramp but only managed two keepers and a bunch of dinks. Was about to head up river around 4PM until I talked to a guy that was upriver since 11AM and hadn't had any luck either. Saw a couple of guys jigging around the well, but couldn't tell if they were catching. Before that cold/rain spell hit I was doing pretty good. Hopefully the fish will stack up again...and hopefully I can find 'em.

Hendo likes to buy a new fat free shad in some funky color scheme, then laugh at me when he gets a bite and I'm turning over my tackle box trying to find a lure to match. Heaven forbid he show up with a COUPLE of lures...especially considering I'm always loaning some to him.

KingBingo, I noticed you were in Spring Branch. That's where I live. Moved out there a year ago but my profile still says SA. Anyway, I sometimes have an empty seat in my boat and I need to meet somebody that fishes the area or knows the local hotspots. (I'm tired of getting skunked at Canyon) If interested drop me an email at lmwaddy@cps-satx.com.

thanks for the offer. i usually go out solo too....everyone bugs me to take them fishing, then when it's time they are too busy!

canyon can be a tough place to fish. i probably won't be out there again until we get into a good summertime pattern. i hit the stripers at night near the dam.

the next few months i'll be hitting braunig. once you get into those big reds, you'll be spoiled forever!

Hey KingBingo;
I sure would like to know when you start hitting
the reds at Braunig. Like they say once you catch
one you are hooked. I like to slip down there
every now and then to get a change from Canyon.
Good Day; ><{{*>

I've done pretty well right after the whites are done with their run. Usually April on into the summer. Probably cause that's when I start fishing for them. I like to think that it's because the water is a little warmer though.

Just one more cast!

march-june. april is usually the best action. you hang a 36" red down there and you'll forget all about white bass... actually those whites would make a perfect bait!

there used to be really good hybrid striper fishing at braunig, but ever since that fish kill 3-4 years ago, i haven't caught one, and we used to leave them biting.... hopefully this year will be different cause they sure are fun to catch and great to eat!

Thanks for the info. on catching some of those
Braunig reds. I really do like fishing for them,
or should I say catching them rascals. They will
check out your tackle for you. I was a salt
water red fisherman back in the 70's and 80's
but now I kinda hate going down and getting
salt all over everything. Sure is alot cleaner
to just catch them in freshwater. Thanks again.
Hope to see you all out there someday;
Good Day; ><{{*>
