I have a 04 Dodge ram 1500 4.7 ltr v8. I know it has a blown head gasket. I am looking for a good mechanic shop to replace the head gaskets and have the heads inspected and probably milled. I do not want to do a valve job or anything else unless completely necesary after seeing the heads. The motor has never been over heated or had any other problems just some how blew a gasket. I am looking for a good mechanic and trying not to spend a fortune. I live in Joshua and the truck is drivable to get it to you. So can anyone recomend someone or shoot me an estimate? Thanks in advance.

I work in the shop at a dodge dealer, and when it comes to that 4.7L you dont want to mill those heads. When they are milled they tend to kick the rockers out from between the cams and valves. If it didnt overheat are you sure its a head gasket? If it is just missing you might want to check the rockers, this will also cause low compression. I will send you a pm with my # call me when you get a chance.
This is what it's all about.

knowing dealership quality technicians is worth its weight in gold. i highly suggest you contact suburbanfisher. dealership techs are required to train at a higher level than corner store mechanics. Not saying they arent comparable in knowledge, but brand specific training usually results in more brand specific knowledge. so having a tech thats specific for your brand is a great plus. they usually also have access to brand specific computer equipment to get into your PCM and reprogram with current updates, that the mechanic can not.

we can do it - not a problem napoliauto@charterinternet.com not all dealerships are created equal that is why there are independants. sometimes i feel like we care a little bit more and i have the best heavy line mech in the state. T is good at it- very seldom anything comes back.

Update : I took it to a local shop and I am working with them on it, we got it tore down and it was a blown head gasket. Took the head to a machine shop and had it check out, everything is good. We will start putting it all back together tomorrow and hopefully have it up and running tomorrow night. Thanks everybody.
