Had the good fortune to fish with Mart T. and Chris Carey (Striper Express). Was a last minute put together trip that turned out great. Got to the lake about 10:00 and headed out into the fog. The fog was very thick at times and then be gone then back. Here is a pic of the 377 bridge in the fog.

The fog was very eire at times but thats not the weird part. Morning started out great, first stop and fish on and they were big. Nice overcast day, air temp warming up, jackets coming off and fish are on. We were fishing in 12ft or less of water with a medium to fast retrieve to keep the lure off the bottom. Now anyone that fishes in the winter knows you fish deep and deadstick or slow roll - Not today. If I hadn't been there myself I wouldn't have beleived it. Shad were being chased all over the area and Chris hooks the big fish of the day, unfortuanely I tried to net it one handed and the fish was too big to fit in the net, head went over one side and the line snapped. Estimate it went 14-15lbs. I did manage to land an ll lber (also caught an 11 lber last Saturday).

We didn't get our limit because the fish were too big - nice problem to have. We threw back 24 or more not sure I lost count. Fish were caught on a dead assassin on bullethead jighead from moe's or a 3D jighead with shad stix plastic from striped bass tackle. The action died down in that spot so we tried others but you could feel a change in the weather, it got cold quick, and a few claps of thunder sent us in. Again Texoma and Chris fooled me. I don't think I will ever be able to figure either one of them out. It was a great but weird day on the big pond with two good fishing friends.

Thanks for the report. You never stop learning and you can never assume a specific method of fishing will work every time with stripers or any fish for that matter...

Steve, I remember that trip last March where you caught you first 30"+ striper and PB. How may of those size fish and bigger have you caught since then? My how things change quickly over a year! Nice catch, and Chris has had quite the month too!

That is the correct way to hold a fish for a photograph. Arm fully extended towards the camera. Hehehehe..That's a 20 pounder if I ever saw one.

Markk, I remember that trip well, that was a ninth inning sun going down catch of a PB. I enjoyed fishing with you that day, we will have to get together and do another spring trip. I have caught one bigger since then a 14 lb'er and I can only recall 2 more double digit fish and these were caught in the last two trips. I'm just glad to see the Texoma striper with some bellies on them after seeing and catching some real skinny ones at the end of last summer.

Steve if you had any idea of how jealous I am of you being there and I being in Iowa with 2 foot of snow you would be hiding. I believe that Chris is part fish for he has put my wife on double digit fish when no one else was catching. Love that lake for sure!!!!

GeneandSandee I know I am fortuante to live in this area and am able to get quality fishing trips any month of the year even when I don't expect it. I was born in Indiana and am so glad I ended up here.
