I have an 02 185 Vs Ranger. The front fish finder (Lowrance X15) just lost power all of a sudden the other day.

I took the unit to BPS, and it works fine so I figure its a wiring or a connection problem.

All fuses are good. What do I do now? I checked with a voltage meter and the unit is not getting any power.

I have zero experience with wiring and I fiddled around a little and couldn't figure out where the connection was made for my fish finder.

Is this something I can fix myself? Any advice?

If not, what type of shop do I take it in to? A regular boat mechanic? How much does that usually cost?

Thanks for ANY advice.

You might try taken off the front bow panel, and checking the wires and make sure your power wire is still connected on the switch, that is if you graph is controlled by a switch.

Most of the time, there is only one hot wire run the front and then it's jumped to the other swithces in the bow panel, atleast this is how mine is set up.

Check for the hot wire and trace it over where your graph power cable comes in, chances are the hot wire has popped loose.

I did take off the bow panel and checked all the connections but they were fine.

I tried to trace the wiring, but it disappeared into the insulation/foam and I assume is run through the hull somewhere. I can't figure out where the wires come back out of the hull and connect.

Just the switch on the trolling motor batteries. Then it goes to a fuse box. Then to the front of the boat.

I just plug it in and turn it on...well until recently.

Get a small test light or make one and check "every" visible connection tracing wires as you test. You will eliminate what is NOT the problem narrowing down the possibilities.

Using a "needle point" test light will allow you to push the tip into the wires at points where you "can" reach. This will also help you eliminate sections of wire where there is or isn't power. Try that. See if it helps.
hmmm

Check ground wire too. It needs both to work correctly. I am not an electronics expert, but I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.....
Hope this helps. I work on a lot of Corvettes. (Fiberglass) Grounds are always the first things to go bad. Corrosion is usually the problem.
