Good luck to both of you. I quit a 3 can a day habit back in August and I started dipping over 20years ago. I just set a date to quit and did it cold turkey. As far as the cravings, I'm not going to lie, I still eat sunflower seeds and chew gum and it's been almost 6 months for me, but it does get better and you will be happy once you've quit. Good luck!

I went cold turkey, using gum to give me something to do if the cravings get real bad i'll workout or reload some ammo etc. to help get mind off it. kept an old nasty spit cup around for a while to help remind me of how nasty it was. Its not easy but it gets easier as you go, good luck.

First 3 days suck for sure you are like a crack head shakes head hurts but once that's over just go cold turkey best way sunflower seeds start to hurt your mouth but they do help. The Smokey Mountain snuff at HEB works get some. But first get your head right tell yourself you will beat it Then you got to Man the hell up and do it period. I have only been off 5 days but it's better now and I'm glad I am off the snuff good luck.

4 1/2 weeks here. I have tried to quit in the past by using other crutches like gum, nicotine patch and always failed. This time I really wanted to quit and I figured that almost 30 years was long enough for throwing money out the window. So I just quit cold turkey, no gum and nothing else to use, the only thing I did was take several deep breaths and exhale slowly. I did eat more, but I figured that was ok as I can loose the weight but I cant grow a new jaw. Most say 3 days, for me it was a week that I had to get past. It got easier each week and now I can enjoy a beer without thinking about it as well as my coffee.

Just believe in yourself and you can do it.

8 days and still going. I quit cold turkey as some of you said. The first three days were a chore because you develop a routine that you know exactly when your next dip of snuff is going to be. My decision to quit was all of a sudden. I've always said that when I did decide to quit I would do so cold turkey. After 25 years, I don't really crave it at all, but there are still times like when you go fishing and it's just a part of your routine to have a dip. Overcoming that has really been the difficult part.

I figure that I spent $20 - $25/week on snuff. As a reward to myself for quitting I get myself a $25 Bass Pro Gift card each Friday on my way home from work. Eventually I will have enough cards to buy a new trolling motor.

Thanks for asking how. It helps to share with others the same shitake we've all experienced. Good luck to all.

Oh and this is my first post in this section. I will post often.

Grant I like the "Kill the Can" site.

Cold turkey. Last time I quit for 5 years. Hopefully this time will be permanent.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

In my experience with three previous quits - if I hadn't grubbed a butt and taken that first puff I'd still be quit.

This time I'm gonna keep saying N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff (Pinch) Ever.......
