I have the same dilema. Wanted to go to Tawakoni but a friend talked me out of it...Said the fish run up the creeks this time of year At Tawakoni but Cedar creek doesn't have that kind of inflow so the fish stay on the lower lake. Anyone agree with this phylosophy? My friend has put me on too many fish to not do what he suggests. Im hitting CC tomorrow.

NO....all fish do not run up the creeks, alot of fish try to spawn on points, you just have to find them.....Tawakonie can be very good this time of year.

Eagle Mountain is close as is Grapevine, both good sandbass lakes...I still drive the 100 miles to Tawakoni, Cedar Creek, Richland Chambers, maybe I can learn Hubbard and be 50 miles from home. If you took every sandbass in the lake and they all went up a creek or river,,,they would not fit! So, with the answer to the question, NO, they do not all go up a creek or river, many will spawn in a lake on a windblown shore that is rocky or sandy, like at RC and CC. However, CC has plenty of creeks and the sandbass go up there as well, King creek, Caney Creek, Twin Creek, other creeks, but look at the bridge on 274 over king creek the next few weeks and you will see people fishing and if you sat there and looked at what they caught, there would be sandbass in there too! So, they do go up creeks at CC, there is plenty of flow, but all fish do not go up a creek For that i am thankful that I do not have to walk a bank to load the freezer right now, I can tow a boat 100 miles and go do it:D Sorry, but your friend is wrong. However, he is partially right about catching SB at CC right now. We got over 200 and kept a four man limit, but you have to know where to look for them, same at RC.

forgot Lewisville is another good sandbass lake, if you can avoid the ski boats and such in the summer.
I have fished it for sandbass twice, limited easily and fished if for bass once, so i have been on it 3 times.

Anyone have a general idea of where to start looking for those sandies/striper/hybrid? Last year it was the pump station, are there any birds still on the lake?

Went to CC and caught about 50 small WB (10-11") with some hybrid the same size mixed in. Boat next to me got one Hybrid about 10".
Anyway, at Tawakoni This time of year I have had good luck around the Greenvill and Dallas pump stations. Also on humps along the NE shore towards the dam from 174. Can't say I ever fished the lower lake before May. really tore them up in may in shallow water under birds though.
Watch out for the birds right now. At least on CC the gulls and terns were diving on loons and cormorants in deep water. Lots of shad there but no gamefish that I could tell. Better to work the structure.

Hey, saw the same action yesterday. In 30-40ft of water tons of birds working shad on the surface, but could not get the fish to take a lure. I could mark them, but could not get them to take a slab. Next time I'll throw a sassy shad and let it sink and then bring it in kinda slow.... I put in at Holiday Landing and then head over to the humps on the north east side. Should be heating up.....weather and fishing!

Anybody else heading to tawakoni this weekend? Looks like a nice day to go out and get the spring/summer first burn.lol I'll be putting in over at 276, if the lake is up i'll put in at the public boat ramp right before the bridge if not i'll head across the bridge and launch there, anyone know if that is a public lauch or is there a fee? And anyone been on or crossed over the lake lately? just wondering if the lake level is back up or not.

Ray If you've gotten there yet you probably know it's a public ramp. I like it a little better than the one right before the bridge, not as much parking though. But if the wind is up, the first one is a little more protected.
