I'm going thru the TPWD site and finding all kinds of places that look like they might be good to go to but I don't hear much about people kayaking around such as the larger lakes like PK, Bridgeport, or Arrowhead. Even some of the smaller places like this....

My favorite spots are brazos beloe whitney. My next 2 are
the colorado river & san saba river in san saba county &
llano river in llano county. I've been on the brazos more than
the other's I mentioned. I would like to explore more on the
colorado/san saba/llano & get better at catching fish there.
But My fav is definatly brazos below whitney.

I hit Arrowhead all the time since I live here in Wichita Falls. You have to watch the wind because it will get up real fast. There is a river off Arrowhead called Little Wichita that holds some nice catfish. In a few weeks maybe sooner crappie time. I have been catching some at the State Park.

Yup.

They will give up some nice fish every now and then and you don't have to deal with the PB's.

Where on the Guadalupe is good?

Thanks!

Where you fished is good there at the State Park. I was there last May and during the week you pretty much have the river to yourself. Use ultralight tackle and small lead headed jigs or spinners with curly tailed grubs. Assorted colors, and you can anything from bass to bluegills to catfish.

Also up around Kerrville there is some good fishing in the Guadalupe, and below the I35 bridge on Dunlap the fishing can be great. Dunlap is good this time of year before it gets too warm, then the skiers come out, and it's just too crazy to be on in a kayak unless you go early or late and during the week.

Lots of opportunities at just about any of our lakes and rivers, but you just have to learn the spots and try to stay away from the big power boats, and you'll be fine.

Kayaks have an advantage that they can go where most others can't so keep that in mind and plan your trips looking for those out of the way secret places that only a kayak can get into.

Down below Dunlap there are a couple other smaller lakes that are off the beaten path and should be free of power boaters, at least the larger ones, and they are Placid and Meadows.

I think you can get to Placid under the I10 bridge and Meadows used to have a small what I call beer joint that used to let you launch for a few bucks, but it's been years since I've been there.

I agree with Carver. It's hard to beat Rockport/AP for the variety and abundance. If sand wasn't so irritating, I could be a beach bum.

For scenery, it's hard to beat the Upper Brazos.

For relaxing and playing in the water, the guad, comal, san marcos, and mt fork are constant water supplies with lots of fun to be had.

I usually go to tawakoni or the tributaries of sam rayburn to stock the freezer. It's just two places that I have learned to fish and close to home and relatives. The catfishing at tawakoni is easy and the crappie at big sam are easy pickins also.

Unless you have some experinece, you should probably avoid large open bodies of water with high waves. That is the reason people don't kayak on the lakes like PK. They are open, and they have no banks to absord waves. The clifs deflect the waves, and it gets very rough and choppy in places. If you do go, you should certainly go with a friend, and I wear my life jacket if the water is over a few feet deep or so.

For fishing, my very favorite kayak fishing spot is well.....
