Hey all...
Updating my boat this year so I figured I would spring for a RAM mount...$59.99...RIPOFF!!!!!
So I made my own. Let me know what you think...

Here's what you need:

Your gimble mount, a 5" nipple blush, a 1 1/2 " flange, (find both in the plumbing at Home Depot or Lowes), a 6" hex bolt, two fender washers, and a 1/4" bolt.

Assembled as shown. You can also use a 6" or 8" nipple. blush
Prime with metal primer spray paint and paint with flat gray/black spray paint. Haven't done that yet!!

Very Nice! Thanks For the Post. I don't suppose you have to paint it if it's galvanized but it would look better

i like the ram mount because it helps absorb heavy shock. your idea looks good, though.

Does look kewl but im with Skeeter ronnie here, You need some shock absorbancy there fella or your eletronics are gonna get banged about a bit. Where as even if moounted in the console the fiberglass gives a little

Nice job rigging that up. The two most important qualities of a ram mount are infinate adjustment options and like stated above shock absorbtion....the shock absorbtion is probably the most important of all.

OK I am not an engineer, but as far as needing shock absorbtion, I would think you have none in a recessed bow or dash mount or when the gimbal mount is attached directly to the console/next to console, or when you use a Johnny Ray mount.

Not trying to start a battle, just think maybe his rigid mount may be just as safe as any other "rigid" mount method?

I was thinking the same thing. Not criticizing anyone...I love the ideas and add ons!!! I was just trying out something getting folks interested. I plan on mounting this right in front of the trolling motor pedal...dead center. I figured I have the deck, carpet, and the gimbal mount to absorb any shock. Before, I had only the gimbel mount and my unit is still fine. I know it lacks the many different adjustment options a "real" RAM mount offers but I am OK with that!! Keep the ideas coming guys!!!

That's AWESOME! Thanks for saving me $! I'm curious how everyone knows it needs to absorb shock when you are the only one with one thus far?! Keep it up man. If you paint it repost would like to see final product!

People arent referring to his mount in particular they are referring to the most well known causes of electronics failure shock and water.
