I have accumulated several Ugky Stix over the past 30 years. I still use a 25 year old 7'-0" predecessor of the Ugly Stix line for redfishing. I have three 7'-0" Intercoastals baitcasters that I used for bull reds. The others are in the corner of my tackle room collecting dust. To me Ugly Stix are way to limber and heavy for fishing all day. There are dang near indestructible though.

When I went to Bass Pro shops today, I picked up a 7'-0" Inshore Select rod. It was the first time I had seen them. For some reason, it just felt lighter than the other Ugly Stix I have. I am going to check it out tomorrow throwing a Strike King Sexy Swimmer.

Be safe,
Rayzor

I have 9 rods, 6 of them are ugly sticks. Not for the price, simply because it's the only brand of rod I have not had break. From big fish or when casting.
I put alot of snap into my casts, have had ppl tell me my rod tip looks like it could touch the grip halfway through my casts and my uglys keep on going!

I also just picked up a 7' inshore select last week, matter of fact that makes #7
I agree it feels alot lighter than all of my others.
Can't wait to try it! I have a shimano Cardiff on it and it's balanced really well.

As a teenager over a quarter century ago, I was watching an episode of Wallace Wildlife and they were peddlin the Ugly Sticks and Ryobi V-Spool baitcasters. Saved me up a couple of bucks and made a trip to Target and bought me a 5 and a half foot med/heavy Ugly stick and matched it up with a V-Spool. The V-Spool reel bit the dust a long time ago, but I still use the rod often. Now it has an Accurist mounted on it. I have a ton of memories with that old rod.

I ask the same question - I just joined a bass fishing club and need to get a versatile and useful rig. I am told that a stiff spine is optimal - and length. I have a smaller shimano open cast reel and a shorter Rod - a fenwick - thought it is too flexible to set the hook with worms.
Any IDEAS? ehutut@yahoo.com

I could not find an Ugly Stick at Bass Pro Shop and when I went to Academy all they had in combos were for leftys and I'm a righty. Long story short I ended up getting a Zebco 6'6" medium/heavy.
