Here is the question:

I have a pond that is way overstocked. The fish have big heads and skinny bodies. I know how much needs to be taken out for the size of the pond. The question is where should I take them? And, how should I transport them?

Why not just fillet them and eat them? Maybe a neighbor would like a few fish stocked in their pond, try asking them. If you decide to transport to a neighbors pond, do what we always do. Load up 2 or 3 big wash tubs (#5 I believe, and they can be purchased at any of the home improvement stores) and fill them with water from the pond. You can also use big trash cans as well, ether plastic or metal. Then, as you catch the fish, toss them into the big tubs (just like live wells) and transport them to the next pond. If you can get close enough, you can just pour them in. If not, use a dipnet to remove them. We've moved quite a few bass and catfish from various ponds to ours.

You could have a TFF kid fishing day and let the kids get after them...I am sure they would love that!

Share the experience allow some kids to fish, always a good thing to get more people involved with fishing.

Transporting is another ideas or go to the old stand by and have a fish fry.

Good idea with the kid fishing thing, but the pond is not mine. The community that we built our house in, has the pond. I will bring it up with the HOA when after we move in. I am sure there are plenty of kids that would have a blast, including my 3. Thanks for the help on transporting them, I feel like an idiot. I should have thought of that. Thanks.

If you are considering relocating the fish I would contact the texas parks and wildlife to see if transplanting fish is legal, or if they need to authorize it.

I would consider letting your local kids fish for them, or better yet organize a little tournament for the kids.

Very true sns 171. TPWD has restrictions on transporting fish drom public waters. By the wording of the first question, "I have a pond that is way overstocked," I was assuming that it was a privately owned pond and not associated with a homeowners group or public water. I don't believe it is illegal to transport fish from your own private pond to a neighbors private pond.
