I have a 17 1/2 foot lowe bass boat (aluminum) it currently has a 50hp motor and I can get up to 30mph. It can take up to a 75hp motor, I need someone to tell me how much faster I would get with the 75hp? Is it worth it?

going from 50 hp to 75 is a decent step, I would say you could get 35-40 out of it at the least, it being worth it I am not sure what you want you are meaning..

Dude, it's not worth the money. Sounds like you have a good fishing boat. If you want speed, upgrade to a differiant hull.

Just my opinion.

I would leave it alone not worth the money for an extra few miles an hour and you have to take in consideration the extra gas a bigger engine will burn. Im not sure if it will help but you might check into getting a differant prop that might gain you more speed

First off, welcome to the forum. cheers Second, you'll probably get more help on the Boats and Motors section. Mods will probably move it anyway. I don't know if your wanting to buy a new 75 HP or if you have your eyeball on a used one. Like they said above, may not be worth it. To many unknown variables. Check with Steve (Steve's Custom Props) on the Boats and Motors section. Let him know exactly what you've got (Boat Model,Motor year and make, what prop you have) and he can tell you if your getting the best speed or not, and what a 75 should do on that boat.

spend the difference on eqipment , t motor , depth finders, after all you spend more time on the trolling motor than on the big one

You're only at 2/3 of your rated HP now, I'd call that seriously underpowered.

50% more power, about 100 pounds heavier, I think you'll be looking at more like 1/4 to 1/3 faster -- 37 to 40mph.

Your fuel burn will be up about 50%....

you most likely have an alum. prop on your engine.

going to a sst prop will be a good idea. could be a few more mph there, not to mention it will last longer than an alum. prop.

what engine do ya have?

OH. one other thing. going to a 75hp engine will put into a whole new category of prop's.
The 75 to 115hp engines use a bigger prop.

to me...it's worth the investment going to a 75hp. course i'm all about HORSEPOWER!!

the bigger props are more expensive.

with the 75 vs. a 50hp there could easily be a 8-10mph difference.

It would be cheaper to just mount another 50 on it and go offshore style.... well maybe not, but that would look cool.

As a dealer of lowe boats and I have rigged many with 50's and 75's. You will have to put tabs on the back to create a hook. This will allow you to trim it out more. If you don't do this and go to a 75 you will not see much gain maybe 3-5 MPH. I personally have not had a Lowe Stinger 175 get 40 MPH with a 75 but it could happen.
