So some friends and I are thinking of a nice day long trip up to the Guad in the next few weeks to enjoy the beautiful scenery and just get outdoors.
Many of us want to fish, while some will want to just hang out on the bank, drink a few beers, and grill some tasty meats.
Anybody have any suggestions for a good spot with some good day camp facilities and decent trout fishing? the special regs section is fine with me since the day is about getting outdoors, not filling my freezer. happy to CPR the trout.
Any recommendations for fly patters that are working up there would be greatly appreciated as well.

I believe the place that I'm thinking of is called Rio Raft. It's located on River Rd. and cost $8 a person. This is were some of the best trophy sized trout fishing takes place. They also have several picnic tables to chill at. Beautiful rapids and hills aswell.

Stayed at a cabin around Sattler last weekend. Can't help you with patterns, because I didn't catch a single fish all weekend. My brother in law caught one on a fly called a "real meal." I saw a couple of other folks catch a few, but they weren't wearing them out by any means. The fishing was slow, but the scenery was great. A few beers helped us with the fishing blues. Hope you have better luck.

Mountain Breeze Campgrounds. They have cabins & hook-ups. Also hot showers that you don't have to pay for. They rent canoes, rafts, and tubes. Plus if you want to camp near the water you don't have to worry about anyone driving through your tent. If you want to camp where someone can drive through your tent they have that too.

those look like some nice places. Rio looks like the place, but i will keep my eyes open on the way there for a deal or a particularly nice camp site.

Correction on what I said earlier. The place is called Lazy L & L campground. Never been to Rio Raft but am going there in a few hours to hopfully catch some trophies. Will let you know about how it goes.

ah ok.. i took at look at L & L and it looked pretty good.
let me know how the facilities at Rio look. i don't want to pay to get in there to find out there are no picnic tables or grills by the water.

The people at Rio are nice and will show you around and tell you if they have what you want prior to paying.
As far as the fishing is concerned, the limestone cuts at Rio offer some interesting wading and fishing. Not what I was use to but I am getting a little better at it. I would bring a staff if you have one as the river may not be as clear as normal with the rains last night and this morning. Moving down stream you can stir up some silt which makes navigating the cuts real slow going.
