I have lots of personal experience with the Yellow Magic. I recall fishing as a co-angler in a BFL event at Rayburn a few years back. I had a 13lb limit in 6 casts on a YM. The boater that I drew was fishing a pop-r and didn't catch a fish until after 10 am. He weighed one for the day.

The closest thing I have found to a Yellow Magic is the H2O pop bait. It actually walks and spits like a Yellow Magic.

I've heard the same thing, that the Zell Pop is made side by side with the Yellow Magic. I know for a fact smallmouths hate the Zell Pops. They want to kill 'em. Zells also have lots better hooks.

Like most of the others, I really like this bait. Expensive but is a great producer. I fish topwater a lot and have become convinced of the value of this bait. Don't be afraid to try the magnum size as well. Some days it's the ticket.

The Yellow Magic is well worth the money. You will get more strikes/fish with a Yellow Magic over a Pop-R.

Try the 1/4-ounce size (Smaller version). They produce much better than the larger one. I caught (4) 4lb Bass in a row within 15 minutes with one while pre-fishing for a tournament this past summer.

Dang it... I was afraid of a response like this. Guess I am going to have to get some, I will just have to remember to properly dispose of the receipt.

I used to brag that I would put my pop r up against anyone's yellow magic, too. Then last spring I had my you know what handed to me at Fork by two guys throwing YMs. They had 10 or 12 fish apiece before I had a blowup on a pop r. I've been on the YM bandwagon ever since. There is a guy in Cali named Don Iovino who sells the "splash it". It looks exactly like a YM but different paint jobs. If you order enough he also sends you plenty of replacement hooks.

Had the same YM for 5 years, caught over 300 fish and thats a conservative estimate. Lost it last year to the Lake Fork Monster. Best $15 I ever spent.

I too fell victim to the YM hype. Thanks mostly in part to the great ambasadors of this forum. It sits in the bottom of my crank box 51 weeks out of the year. Once I left it tied on by accident.
It'll catch fish. I just don't believe it will outfish another.
