I have always been a bank beater and/or always fish shallow structure. I would like to expand my fishing to deep water cranking and so on but I have no idea where to start. for someone that isn't catching em shallow what or where is the first place I need to look for and start at?????

Anything different, Humps, ditch, roads, tank dams, bolders a lone tree out by it self, fence row, dumped objects (ray Roberts ) car & truck bodys stoves, air cons etc. Study your map then use LCR. If you find two of them , such as bolder next to a tree. Fish the heck out of it !!!!! Good casting.

The simplest way to get away from "beating the bank" is to fish points. Points are natural migration routes for bass, as are creeks, ditches, drains, ridges, roadbeds, and fencerows. To keep it simple though, just think about points. Points will almost always have deeper water on at least on side, which will ordinarily be where you will find the fish. Bass will use points during their transiton from winter to pre-spawn, and again post-spawn into summer patterns. A general rule is look at the slope of a point on the bank, then picture the point continuing into and beyond the waterline. This will allow you to get an idea of what the structure looks like that you are fishing. This time of year, as the water temps start to rise, look for grass on main lake and secondary points. To start out, locate the outside (deepest edge) grassline and try a carolina rig, jig, or deep crankbait. On warm days or as after an extended warm period, try the inside (shallow edge) grassline with a c-rig, jig, or lipless crankbait. The inside grassline is where the fish will really pile up while staging to move shallow for the spawn. This can be some of the easiest fishing of the year. As I said before, there are endless types of structure/cover combinations that will all hold fish at one time or another, but fishing points to start with, will help you recognize how the fish postion on any structure. good luck!
