Below canyon dam. Most likely had been feeding on rainbow trout.

The current state record striper was caught in the tailwaters of PK dam in 1999 by Ron Venerable and weighed 53 lbs. even.
Prior to that it was a 50-lb even striper by Edward Scott in the tailwaters of Canyon Lake in 1996. The one before that was close to 49 lbs. and was also caught in the tailwaters of Canyon Dam (Guadalupe River).

YOU CAN'T USE TROUT FOR BAIT! THE STRIPERS JUST LOVE TO FEED ON THEM WHERE THE TROUT ARE STOCKED. THE PENALTY FOR USING GAME FISH FOR BAIT IS VERY STIFF.

Funny you mention that they feed on stocked trout. This is NO FISH STORY ! I was on Lake McConaughy in NE fishing for walleye and noticed massive circles on the water surface right near a boat ramp where the DNR had just completed stocking brownies in the lake that were 10-12 inches long. Huge Stripers were pinning the trout against the shoreline and sucking them in 2 at a time. It was quite impressive to see how ferocious eaters they really are. To make a long story short. I nailed 6 fish casting from the bank that were all over 30 + lbs. Here's a Pic of my largest at 48 lbs. and my Dad's http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rrogan_920/detail?.dir=a6f2&.dnm=89b0re2.jpg http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rrogan_920/detail?.dir=a6f2&.dnm=21ddre2.jpg&.src=ph I even got a chance to video my Dad catching the largest fish of his life a 30 lb Striper. Got Graphite mounts made of both our fish for Xmas. Brought tears to an old mans eyes ! Boy what great memories this brings back. Thanks for the post !

The record Striper was caught out of a Canoe behind PK on a Perch. The fish was almost cleaned and eaten.John Nash of PK traded some bagged frozen fish for the record fish. The record fish was mounted and was in his store on the corner of park rd 36 until it closed recently. Were the mount is today I dont know.

There was a guide that got caught using rainbows a few years ago for bait and I think he is in a state prison now.
A fish a day keeps the doctor away.

Naw, I don't think Shane went to prison but he lost his guide license for life and was fined heavily enough to make him wish prison was an option...

I've seen giant plastic rainbow trout lures that they use in Californa to catch big bass 15 lbs +

Specifically, the biggest Striper out of the Guad was caught in Horseshoe falls if I recall correctly. And yes, it was caught on a rainbow.
