20# Big Game. Mostly fish on Conroe. Line size not that big of a deal on Conroe with the cesspool visibility.

If you are a serious fisherman, than you dont limmit yourself to just one type of line. In bass fishing, there are many tactics, approaches, and situations; and they all call for specific equipment. Line size can play a crucial role in weather you git bit or not and be instrumental in getting fish to the boat.

Every time I go fishing, I take 6 to 8 rod/reel combos, all spooled with a certain line for a certain situation. I have setups for jigs, T-Rigs, Top waters, spinnerbaits, cranking lures, finesse fishing, ect.

Here is a rundown on how I do things:

ROD 1 - (Spinnerbaits/Topwaters) I spool up with 50 lb Power Pro braid. This line is ultra strong and floats near the surface making it great for lures that are fished near the top. I also gives a much better dog walking action than monofiliment. The high breaking strength allows you to fish lures around thick vegatation and brush without much breakoffs! However, there is little stretch so you must train yourself to leave a little slack out on topwaters and not set hook too early.

ROD 2 - (Jigs) By jigs, I mean like football head or flipping jigs with trailor combos. On this setup I prefer 20 lb copolymer or flourocarbon. I go with 20 lb Flouroclear (coated) P-Line when fishing big bass lakes that arent supper clear water. If fishing gin clear lakes, Ill drop to 17 lb test and use Flourocarbon instead of the P-Line! Sometimes I will use braid for Jigs, but only if water is supper muddy and I am punching thick cover! The copoly and Flouro give you great strength, low memory for control; but still plenty of stretch for those tricky jig fish bites!

ROD 3 - (TX Rig/C-Rig) This is my basci flipping set up. Again, it depends on the lake characteristics. I like to use 17-20 lb Flouroclear (coated) P-Line for most situations. However, I will drop down to 15 lb Flourocarbon for super clear water. Again, the copolymer and flourocarbon give great contron with the lure with the right amount of stretch. Some guys flip with braid but I dont like the way that braid blows around in the wind on the surface making it hard to feel lure.

ROD 4 - (Senko Stick) I always have a senko rigged up as I believe it to be the best all-around bait. I throw senkos weightless, therefore flourocarbon is a must! I have found that 12 lb flouro provides the best rate of sink. It makes all the difference in the world. I also fish other weithless plastics (ex. flukes) and deep water/cover shakey heading with this combo.

ROD 5 - (Finesse) When I say finesse, I mean my shakey head set up. This is my only spinning combo and I use no heavier than 10 lb flourocarbon. If it is a lake with smaller fish I will drop down to 6-8 lb test!

ROD 6 - (Shallow Cranks) This is the rod that I throw traps, lipless cranks, and crankbaits running shallower than 12 feet. I like to use 15 lb flourocarbon or copolymer line on these. Right now I really like the P-Line Extra. You can bring up the lake bottom with the stuff, and it still cuts water well.

ROD 7 - (Deep Cranks) This is rod that I use for cranks that run deeper than 12 feet. My toad set-up! If the lake doesnt have much cover I will use 12-14 lb flourocarbon cause it gets down real fast. But, if the lake has heavy cover like Falcon; I sacrifice this for a little more strength. I have fallen in love with the P-Line Extra, in 15 lb test! This stuff does not break. A month ago at Falcon, I had a sack just under 30 lbs, all on the crank, and only had to retie like one time!

Well, there it is. Hope that gives you some ideas!

Spinning reels: 8, 10 & 12. Mono or Flouro depending on cover, clarity or what baits I'm using. Cajun Line mono or flouro, Carbon Pro flouro, Trilene XL.

Baitcasting reels: 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20, 30. That probably seems excessive in terms of so many different weights. Part of it has to do with which line I prefer in which brand. Most of my baitcasting line is mono. I do use 30# Spiderwire braid on one reel (if I lived in Texas it'd be 65 Power Pro). Brand wise it's Cajun Line, Big Game, or Stren High Impact. I rather use higher abrasion resistant, stiffer, saltwater type lines. I also use some hi-vis versions too esp. with plastics and jigs.

From one, up to, and including 35 pound test, not counting braid.
When it comes to braid I prefer 40, 55, and 80 pound test Daiwa Samurai Braid.

I made the mistake of using Seaguar 10lb. on my spinning real. Bailed off the spool 80% of the time. Whats yalls favorite for spinning reals?
