Are the St. Croix rods worth a dern? I kinda like the look and price of the Mojo Bass, but Im kinda skeptical of rods priced at $100 and below. Im kind of a get what u pay for person. any inquiries or personal experienes about the St. Croix brand?

rajuncajun074....you couldnt have said it better...you get what you pay for. That being said, I own several St. Croix's Premier casting rods including a flyrod that I have had for years. I also own several G Loomis rods too. I do like the feel and casting accuracy of the St Croix but I did break two of them last year. Two things to remember....Uh....don't high stick a big fish when setting the hook and dont lift big female bedded bass in the boat with just the rod. Yes that was my fault and not the rods. I have done it with the G Loomis rods and they are still in one piece. I am quite impressed with the Mojo rods after handling them and think they are a very well made rod with quality parts. IMO for the price you can't go wrong. Just don't get stupid with them like I did. If you want to spend twice as much or more and dawg the heck out of a rod, get a G Loomis. Hope this helps...just my opinion........Tight Lines!

Of course I cant resist posting on this thread as Im a hugh fan of St. Croix.
Theres no question in my mind that St. Croix rods made with both IPC, and ART are the most advanced rods blanks out there. There are three lines of rods with ART, and IPC: Legend Tournament, Legend Elite, and Legend Xtreme. Superb rods all. The draw back is that the Tournaments are priced between $200, and $300, and the Elites, and Xtremes are above $300.
The current generation of Avid series rods have IFC, but NOT APC.
All their other rod series do not have these.
Mojos are excellent bang for $, but they are heavier than the above lines of St. Croix rods. That said, I do have a Mojo 7'9" swimbait rod that is the cats PJs.

St Croix Legend Tournament rods are the best in my book i am swapping all my rod over to them. I also like the shimano cumara i own about six of them very nice as well. The main thing is i want a company that stands behind their product and both of these do.

does St. Croix have the same issue as the Falcon BuCoo has where the actions are actually less than they say? Like the MH are actually Medium etc.

I personally have 3 Mojo rods and will have more by April, hands down the best bang for the buck.

Like the MH are actually Medium etc. Cajun, You need to understand that there is no standardization of exactly what constitutes a given power or action of rod in the tackle industry. The upshot here is that each rod company will rate their rods by THEIR standards. In my experience Falcon rods are overrated compared to St. Croix rods, indeed I believe that St. Croix rods are underrated in terms of power. For example the St.Croix AVC68MXF is only rated to 14 pound test line. Personally, I would rate it to at least 17 pound test line. The same blank is used in the AVS68MXF an it is only rated to 12 pound test. The blanks are the same its just that the former in the casting version, and the latter the spinning version. I dont know why St.Croix does this, but they none the less do. HTH, TFP

I LOVE my St. Croix rods. I have Legend elites and Legend Extremes and one Avid. I actually like the Legend rods far better than my Loomis's. I actually sold a GLX BCR803 to buy my last Xtreme and have no regrets but it is a matter of personal preference.
