Biologist told me that the hybrids are most likely escapees from the PK hatchery. There certainly are few, but there are some. Granbury has a few and whitney will have some too. It is rare but possible for cross breeding naturally.

We get a few Hybrids in PK from Lake Graham. Back in the mid 90s there were lots of them. All of the Hybrids on the Brazos could have come from Graham.

I've never heard of there being no hybrids in Whitney. I've caught them from Kimball Bend to Walling Bend in the same places as whites. I have not caught many batches that didn't have a couple hybrids. How rare are we talking here?

They are not stocked and they are pretty rare. Many folks confuse hybrids and sandbass. Two tooth patches - hybrid. One patch that does not have separation- sandbass. Check the TPWD handbook for pics.

I'm up on the tooth patch info, but that's not my usual method of ID-ing them. I usually go by the pattern of the stripes and the size of the fish. If I have a 17" fish with broken stripes, I call it a Hybrid. Is the broken stripe method not as accurate as looking at the tooth patches?
Now I'm revisiting in my mind the many striped fish I have pulled from that lake and questioning their genetics...

There are a few. We catch them every once in a while. Last spring we put an 8 and a 10 in the boat fishing live bait. Whitney has never been stocked with Hybrids but they do slip down the river from time to time.
