Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the crappie fishing game. I remember crappie fishing when I was younger once, but it never really stuck. I just remembered they got soft lips and the bite is fairly light if i'm correct.

Any suggestions on where I can go to get in some practice in the DFW area? Barges or anything, or what kind of environments you would usually find them?

I seem to randomly catch a single crappie out in the open lake on some days I go out to throw the lures around benbrook, but I think those crappie were flukes and caught by mistake haha.

Any info or suggestions would help. I remember seeing some guys at the lavon dam, just killing them. I tried to mimic, but failed to catch even one haha. Maybe my gear was wrong? or maybe my methods were off? lol.

Help me out! haha any info or help would be great. I may even have to go on a guided trip to learn about these fishies

a guided trip is the best investment you can make to get you started crappie fishing.

I've only gone with Cliff Spindle on a couple of guided trips at Ray Roberts, but this I'm sure would pertain to most, if not all of the guides on this forum. They can all put you on a good number of fish, they will teach you all the basics to get you started.

Try Benbrook Lake Marina. Its in a cove with 1 entry/exit. They have a heated barge. $5 to fish. Crappie come in at random, ususally after a cold front comes in. My family friend is the owner and always calls me when they move in. If you are lucky enough to be there when they move in, they hit jigs and minnows just about ever cast. 301 Lakeview Drive, Benbrook, TX 76126. Great place if you are looking for Crappie practice since they literally sit under the barge and feast.

i would suggest a trip to navarro mills. there is a store and several fishing piers at liberty hill park. the old boat slips are converted into a very nice and roomy crappie pier complete with chairs and plenty of cover. they always have fresh brush down! with the lake level up this year, i would imagine it is going to be a hot spot this spring!!!!!!
