Since fishing has been hot for whites and crappie, I asked my 22 year old daughter to try her luck tonight. We started out at 7PM, in 30 feet of water. Water temp was 62 degrees. Winds out of the south at 10MPH, gusting to 20MPH...Mostly cloudy skies. Charted bait at 15 feet of 30 feet of water. Fished with medium minnows, about 20 feet down. Most of the night the winds were gusting, making it hard to keep the boat in one spot.
Fished from 7PM to 10PM. Most fish came between 8-10PM. Left them biting.......

TOTALS:
40 whites, with 34 keepers from 12" to 17"
26 Crappie, with 25 keepers from 12" to 15"...Mostly slabs tonight....Those are so fat!
NO BASS or CATFISH.....

Great time with daughter...She actually complained that her arm hurt...She caught most of the whites!

I will take some pics and post soon...

All I can say is that I spent several tank fulls of gas, searching for lighted boat docks on Lake Travis. I purchased a map of the lake. Launched at several different ramps, during the last few months, and made notes on the docks that looked good. There are many in the Sandy creek area, all the way up to Max Starke Dam.
Once you find a lighted dock in about 30+ feet of water, drop a single #2 red-trueturn hook with a small split shot weight all the way to the bottom and slowly reel up. Once you get a bite, make a mark on the line with a piece of tape or something you can remove. Zebco make a cheap reel that has a line stop on it that makes it fun. I own shimano reels, but do not fish with them under these conditions. I like the Super ultra-light rod/reel combinations.

I am sorry I cannot be more specific....I just have taken alot of time to search and try different locations, to just give up "honey holes"....

I can dang sure understand that! I have done it in the past only to come back another time and could not recognize the place for all of the folks.

I completely understand not wanting to give up your honey holes. I was just wondering about the north side of the lake. I've fished on the south side of the lake for several years but I am trying to find some spots north so I do not have to drive so far. Hope I did not offend you buy asking that question. Thanks for all the info...

I travel over 60 miles roundtrip, towing my boat from home to/from the boat ramp. Then use gas to get to fishing docks. I wish I could fish closer, but I have yet to find that cheap fishing hole. One day I will find one closer to Mansfield Dam, only 25 miles roundtrip from my house.
Some locations that have been catching are:
Dutchmans Landing in Jonestown Texas
River Ranch Resort on Lake Travis near Pedenales/Colorado split.
Hiline and Paradise Point indoor marina's on Lake Buchanan.

Right now, fishing is getting HOT...I would think that anyone should be able to drop a underwater light down, in deep water coves and catch fish....

Just my $0.02

But then again, I travel to Tawakoni(520 miles RT) and Texoma(560miles) to catch 35"+ stripers....I just go twice a year.

c'mon guys, Ranger is giving you a big hint, hint here....if you're gonna fish, nows the time to do it. I think you can tell that from all the catching reports all over.

I'd rather have all that data....time, temp, depth, method, etc. and use that to plan my own trip than nothing at all.

Tight Lines all!

I bought a Zebco Slab seeker with depth locator tonight at Academy. Is this the one you are talking about? Sounded like fun if it works.

Ranger-

Glad to hear they are still under the lights out there. Everyone seems to find the crappie but me on Travis. Been finding plenty of magnum whites.

Remy-

You been fishin any?

Gus-

Been too long man. I've got a week off starting tommorow, but I'm headed for the salt H20. When I get back we will have to find some crappie. If you don't have a partner yet for that granger tourney call me smile

I went out to Sandy Creek Sat. on my boat, and fished from 7-12pm, and caught nothing, had a few bites. My buddy caught 1 white & 1 black bass.

We had two lights in the water, and were fishing minnows.

Any thought or tips on what is going on over on that part of the lake?

Any advice, from anyone is greatly appreciated!

Will,
We need to get together and fish so you can get to know me. Yes, I have been out fishing and my wife about had a cow this last weekend when I was out almost all and I mean all of Saturday except for a few hours of sleep. I had to do a lot of honey do's on Sunday to make up for that one....but only after a good half day's sleep.

Guys, Ranger is a fisherman's fisherman. Catching is what he does, not fishing. If you read his posts carefully, and apply the teachings of the davinci code, you might be able to extrapolate those GPS coordinates for his honey holes. I told him to just quit posting about his grand catches because, 1. you guys don't believe him and 2. if you do, he won't be able to fish his spots next time he goes out. Personally, I think you guys are just trying to egg him on so he gets irritated and posts his locations in spite....don't hold your breath!

IMO this last week, the whites were scarce but the crappie were not. Seems like the only thing biting since last week with these south winds were the crappie and LMB's.

So, River boat, don't feel like the lone ranger.
The whites have been real skittish under the lights especially in that very clear water reservoir. If there was anything I would suggest to you is fish in 30-40 ft., down near the bottom, sometimes burning that minnow up a few feet and stop it. IMO, daytime fishing can be more successful under a bright sky, fishing shadows under docks with deep water and structure.

Of course, I'm just an amateur.

I don't like getting out during the day because I have spotted boats shadowing me. One night a few weeks ago, there was one white boat, I won't name any names, that actually sped around us once he knew which lighted dock we were headed for and cut us off. It's OK though, 'cause I had already cleaned out that hole earlier in the eve.

RAM,

I am not trying to steal anyone's honeyholes, I simply just trying to get some ensight on where the fish might be.

Ranger R seems to be very good about gettin on the fish, and I am just trying to learn some paterns.

I apologize if I upset you, I just thought this forum was for helping each other out, not bragging.

Not that I mind hearing about individuals great catches.

river boat, you are correct about the bragging that goes on the forum. You just have to sort out the facts from the bs. But regarding Travis I would suggest fishing the lighted docks (white lights, not yellow) versus putting out your own lights. Preferably find those lighted docks in 30 ft of water depth, or more. Use minnows with light line and light sinker. You'll catch fish.
I've been successful. Also, be as quiet as possible when approaching the dock. Use your trolling motor as you approach and don't bang the dock. Good luck.
