I used Berkley Vanish Transition Fluorocarbon Fishing Line last season in the 12 IB test, while mainly fishing for bass on EM & Lake Worth... lakes with not a lot of trees and other structure. I had a few break offs and was wondering if it was more of my knot tying ability (polomar) or if I'm using to light of line. 3 of the 4 break offs occurred during the hook set. I fish 90% plastics and only have a couple of poles, so I'm wondering what is a good all around fishing line for this scenario?

I found the same problem with break off at hookset.Knot is the problem Some one told me a San Diego knot is best. But I only use vanish on cranks anymore and have not had one brakeoff. That line doens't like hard impact hook sets as in worm fishing etc.

I use it a lot and in timber and rocks, I have seen it frayed to pieces and still hold up but have learned to retie the knot regularly, especially after a hard pull or hookset. I mostly use 15 or 17 lb test

Tried it at the exact time as I tried vicious and the vicious out performed in strength and memory if that says anything. I'm sure you've seen the reviews of vicious and IMO it's a step down from that.

I gave Berkley flourocarbon a chance once. Put it on the reel ran it through the eyes of the rod could not tie a knot without it breaking. Pulled it all off the reel. Never fished it. P-Line seems to work for me. I like it in 8#,10#&12#. Use it for wacky worm and drop shot. I do not like the Floroclear, I use the Flourocarbon or Halo. Never had a problem.

Funny, I got some at the Berkely big bass event and haven't tried it until this winter. The lot that I got must be different, casue I think this stuff is some of the best line I've used in a long time.
I've used it for jiggin spoons, tail-hummers, and rattle traps. The stuff I've got is super strong and and I've been using it on my traps instead of braid.
I thought I'd offer my opinion.

I had the same problem with Vanish when I tried it but that was several years ago, I don't know if they have changed it since then. I have had much better luck with Seguar Carbon Pro or InvisX.

the vanish stuff is terrible used it once two big mistake never again but as far as 100% professional flouro top notch just spent 100 dollors at academy an hour ago on five boxes it goes on everything except top water(mono always) and i occasionally us braid when iam in some nasty brush
my only complaint is the cost but my line dont break and when i did lose the big ones last year it was my own fault

Vanish is right, your bait will vanish when the line breaks.
