Fishing has been great !! Tons of fish are being caught everday and the action is very fast.

Today( Monday ) we boated about 50 fish in 2 hours up to 10 lbs. Half on top waters and half on live bait. Even in the winds today fishing was awesome.
Yesterday The top water action produced fish up to 10 lbs in my boat and Mark got one that went 14lbs. Shad after the top water bite produced another 20+ fish in a matter of an hour.

The rest of last week is a blurr but most everyday has been started with a great top water bite and then drowining live shad. The shad bite is just incredible. Limits are comming very fast and even though Ive been going to the same spots fish are being caught all over the lake.

Ive porobably averaged 30-40 fish everyday for the last few weeks. Some box fish mixed in with fish up to 10 lbs.
I expect the big Females to start showing up anytime now !!
Fish are on the flats and running the channels near steep banks. The fish are feeding early and late.
Heres a tip.. when the top water bite stops those fish are still there. throw a sassy or coho in the same kind of water they were hitting on top and they will still bite even though they wont hit the top.
Hers another tidbit... after the top water bite I've been tossing a live shad on a free line into the banks and the fish are hammering it.. This method has produced tons of fish the last few weeks and a bunch of LMB and smallies as well.. had one customer land a 4 lb smallie earlier this week.

I found the returning females today ( Tues).. and all I can say is WOW.. From 7am till 8:30 we caught fish on just about every cast with the smallest one going 10 lbs. Imagine an acre of boiling fish and every one of them over 10lbs. The biggest today was 13 lbs. the graph showed fish from the surface down 30 feet.
We left them biting at 8:30 cause we had cramps in our hands smile Wow what a problem smile
If today is an indication The big-uns appear to be comming back into the main lake .
I had 3 fish break off on pencil poppers... that got expensive so we started throwing coho's and still got bit on every cast. I cant imagine it geting any better than the last few weeks and then today happens smile Wonder whats gonna happen when the fishing really gets good in May ??

JD, if you didn't have a big water boat, more like, say, a 15ft trihull that don't like 4ft waves...can you think of a location on Texoma where you could find that kind of action...maybe vicinity of Big Mineral, for example?

Thanks!

Thanks for the report JD! Can't wait for the acres of topwater fish! Does anyone know if fish are being caught midlake or lower lake yet? Washita to the dam?

jtexas.. there are plenty of fish right inside of big mineral. wherever you launch from you shouldnt have to go far

hyrdo.. juniper point is right at the south side of the 377 bridge and a good place to launch and fish. also could launch at buncomb creek which is just over the bricge on the okie side.

Jonhhy.. lots of fish near wahsita point and on the flats. North ledge of Table top is also good. Not much south of there yet and not much towards the dam.

Good report JD, that sounds fun. I talked to Van the other night on the phone he told me to give him a holler when I want to get back down to texoma, may have to one day to get in on this topwater action. laugh

Just 'cause we're catchin' em, doesn't mean we're keepin' em!

We rarely keep anything over about 24 inches, let alone double-digit mamas.

Okay JD, next year will be an April/May trip, 'cause my hands don't cramp easy!! Will have to leave my hand cramping buddies for the second day!

I'm planning on heading up there Sunday and putting in at Grandpappy. How much will the bite be affected by this colder weather?? I only use artificial for stripers so using shad would be out of the question....

The cold front had an effect today (Wed). The early top water bite was non existant for us.. and all the fish I had dialed in this week were gone.
We got our limit of 20 fish and released another 8 stripers + 6 LMB, 2 drum and 2 catfish smile but nothing big today and we really had to work hard and long to do it.
