December is when the flounder limit goes back to 'normal.'

I was down there last week and all signs of the 61st pier were gone and the long pier to the west was in the same shape that its been in since the hurricane.
I read yesterday that they will not rebuild the SLP pier which is really a shame....homeowners and businesses are taking away the piers....

Jan 1 2010 Me and wife went for a ride to Galveston . The old Galveston Fishing Pier is being torn down . A sign listing thier new Website (galvestonfishingpier@comcast.com).I talked to a few bait camps and emailed some friends all the Pier is need is an OK from the city and Coastal Officals and the design and rebuilding will start. Note most of the rock groins off Seawall have been repaved with cement walkways so u can walk to the ends easily.Handicapped would still be a bitch due to the rocks so beware .

i have talked to some who know a lot of what is going on . jimmy who owns the galveston fishing pier has the pier for sale as is. he is looking for investors to help him rebuild. i have heard from many people he does not intend to rebuild. i have also heard that the owner of teh pier at 61st street is waiting for the corps of engineers to finish and then he is ready to rebuild but it wont be until the spring before he will reopen if then. he has all his permits and in also going to make the t-head longer on both sides.
as far as pier for seniors and handicap people the one we go to is bob hall in corpus on padre island. they allow cast nets and are only 1 dollar per person for 24 hours and 1 dfollar per rod up to 4 rods. . we tried the jetties but my husband fell and had to have surgery on his hand so more jetty fishing for us. ireally wish the pier would be built soon.
there are also 2 new piers in bolivar that will be built when they close rollover pass when i dont know one will be at the old meacom pier

yes i do feel like screaming about ike. right now i am hqaving to sue my insurance comapnay over damages to my house. and i live in the humble area. atascocita. we took a hard hit here. we are having to go to corpus area to fish. i still have not heard a thing about the fishing pier yet but soon we will try going to rollover pass for a bit just to get out of the house. i really miss my old galveston most of the things that were there from my childhood now are gone and will never come back.

Got an email today from the owner of the Galveston fishing pier. He said they plan to finally start cleaning up the pier in April. You can sign up from the old galveston pier link to get updates: http://galvestonfishingpier.com/

His name is Jimmy and he seemed very helpful and excited that there is alot of interest in it coming back soon. Just the normal red tape from the government agencies to get it going.
