You can try furling chenille for a wormy looking tail. Just tie on several inches of chenille and start twisting it. Keep on twisting. If you can't twist any more, time to tie it off.
Carefully, without letting the twisting come undone, fold it over and tie the end onto the hook. Once it is secure, you can let go and the loop will form a nice wormy looking tail.
"It's not rocket surgery!"

Try just a rabbit strip. Lead wrapped around shank of hook. Attach rabbit strip to whatever length you want. Wrap rabbit strip over lead just short of eye of hook. Tie off. Cement and good to go. Simple but good action in water. Favorite colrs are white, chart., and olive. Olive is pretty close to the watermelon fluke. You can tir it weightless as well for shallow water.

Here's a bad picture of a couple I tied. They look better in the water.

Ever tied with Sili Skin? Sili SKin Also check out Brian Gambill's fly - the EHR. One of the most deadly bass flies I have ever seen. Suspends, lots of subtle movement - even when the fly is still, and can be tied to match lots of different forage.

Well, it's a Spook, not a fluke, but I did come across this 'lil guy in my interweb wanderings. If you fished it subsurface it would pretty much have the same action as a fluke. The creator claims to be able to walk the dog with it... I'd like to see it in action.
