I have done very well with the zoom fluke in the past for bass fishing. Does anyone have any ideas on how i might apply that design to fly tying?

Rabbit strips would probably make for a dandy tail. The action they have in the water is really wild looking.

You could always go with semi-sparsely packed deerhair, but you'd need to weight it to get it sink.

Yes, but there is probably a better way to do it. Hopefully someone will take pity on the two of us and come to our rescue with a better idea.

If I was gonna try to make something like a fluke for fly fishing, I would make a bucktail streamer or a EP minner, regardless it will difficult to replicate the standard side to side/zig-zag motion of a fluke, I just don't think fly lines & such will work that way.

That's how I learned and got to my current level of fly lashing. Of course after you look at my concoctions, you might want to get some instruction to avoid those pitfalls. If you wanted to go down the road of true fly fishing heathendom, you could always find a smaller version of that fluke and try casting it. It won't be pretty, but it could be workable.

Also, if you want to chase bass with a fly rod, I highly recommend Bassin With a Fly Rod by Jack Ellis.
