Had a great time fishin after the TRWD stocking Thursday and went back for a little more action on Friday. The fish were not as big as last year, but still much better than the TPWD stocked fish. Caught and released 2 to 3 dozen both days on superdupers. Enjoyed shootin the breeze with luckylure and a few others standin out on the rocks. Heck, I didn't even fall in this year. It was nice seeing the game warden making his presence felt both days and he even came down and caught his limit Friday mornin.

Being new to Texas I have a question. As I understand it the river is polluted between Fort Worth and south east of Dallas to the point that you can't eat the fish. So why are they releasing trout into a polluted river?

Good question Beer. Trinity Park stocking was done in a relatively clean area. It's on the upper portion of the river. The further SW you go the more clean the water is. What I gather from visiting w/ others is that lots of folks just fish it because of it's proximity & for sport really. Most don't eat what they catch from the Trinity. I have before but not in a long, time. I'd feel safe to eat from where the trout are stocked though.

It just seems like a waste to me. They may be ok for awhile but I would think the chance of survival is low once they spread out.

The trout are meant to be caught and taken b/c they will die when the water warms up. Most are caught within 4 days of being released (most) and you can find the trout stocking schedule on the Tx Parks & Wildlife website under the fishing section.
It is paid for by TPWD through our fishing licenses and it is meant to promote fishing in urban areas.
The Trinity where they are released (also in Randol Mill Park in Arlington, and in Colleyville, etc) is very clean and is right downntown FTW.

Well I guess it make sense if they can't survive when the water warms up. I did not have access to freshwater trout in Florida. So can other fish be taken from these "clean" areas or is there too mush risk in them traveling from a polluted area?

The part of the river where they release the trout is a part that is filtered for the purpose of attracting people to the walking trails and the other things the park has to offer. the fishing is good too, have caught some nice, healthy bass from there all summer and even recently. The water is ultra clear if you go to the large spillway that is right under I-30, you can see almost to the bottom. It is a nice area.

looks like bear creek was crazy packed...no luck as i only fished for an hour. Looks like they were having a fishing derby for the kids today.

That's exactly what they are doing, I saw a flyer for it two weeks ago but I had forgotten about it.

Well I will look into fishing there down the road. We should have a forum get together at one of these stocking events to meet some of the members.
