i am about to possibly purchase a used 1996 nitro bass boat. I just moved to texas and was wondering what i need to do to get the title transfered. Trying to get a grasp of everything i will need to do in order to be legal. This will be my first boat. few questions
do i have to pay sales tax?
what all do i need to do to register it and the trailer? and do i need to register the outboard?
i looked at the twpd website and printed out some applications but its a little confusing. thanks for all responses.

Outboard is titled seperately from the boat. You will need to title the boat and registrar the trailer also. You do have to pay sales tax. MAKE SURE you have clear titles that can be transfered into your name. If the seller is holding titles in someone else's name that have not been released, get them released BEFORE you give up the money. If you are going to try to track down a previous owner for release after you have paid the seller for the boat just go ahead and put a slug in your left temple. It will be less painful.

If you bought the boat in Texas you have to pay tax on the boat, motor and trailer.

The boat and motor has to be separate from the trailer so if you can have a price for the boat and motor and then another for the trailer it helps.
The Parks and Wildlife is where you transfer the title for the boat and motor. Your county tax assessor is where you would go to register your trailer.

If you bought your boat in La or another state you won't have to pay sales taxes if you can show you paid them in the state you purchased the boat from.
If you can't show them, even if you did pay them, they will still make you pay Tx sales taxes.

have that boat inspected before you buy. see my pre-purchase inspection add in trading post section. Man those questions are one you ask after you have found the best boat in the best condition. Your questions should be , what shape is this boat in? is the compression good? hows the electrical system? dose that lower unit have waterin it? Is this going to be a money pit? Am i buyimg the right boat for me? do the live wells work? I ca awnser all these questions for a lot less than it will take to fix one of those problems 281-312-9856
