Water Temp.46
Normal pool 164.40
Water Clarity 2 feet
01-17-10
Sam Rayburn has dropped this week to 162.68 and is still dropping. The water had stared to clear up a little. Then they started to pull more water, so some places are getting off color again.

The water got really cold from this last front that dropped temperature into the teens at night. The days didnt get much above freezing and that helped keep the water colder than normal. The main lake got down to 42 degrees with the shallow pockets getting down into the 30s. We even had ice on the shoreline a couple of days. We have seen very little bait or anything else in the pockets this week. The bite has been more than tough on all of us. The Trap bite has been nonexistent for us this week in the grass. The fish we have caught have been in 25 to 30 ft off humps and creek channels on Jigs and Drop shot rigs. My best fish came off a long point; on a Nichols spoon; in about 27 foot. Weve been marking a lot of fish suspended but have only caught a few of them when they move close to some cover. The weather will start to warm up this week and I look for some of these fish to move up, that will help the trap bite. Ill try and get out before the weekend and give you an update on the fishing as the weather warms. Look on my forum for that. We will discuss a little bit about cold weather tips in the tidbit section.

I also got some nice pictures of some of the offshore structure on the New Lowrance StructureScan and have them loaded on my site. You wont believe the detail on some of it. I got some of it recorded on the unit and put it on the site in some video so you can see the recording. Check it out. The video is a good size file and takes some time to download.

Remember the Sharelunker Program entries started on October 1 and run thru April 30th. If you havent heard, it encourages anglers who catch a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. There are some great benefits doing this and one of them is that the angler receives a fiberglass replica of the bass. There is a 24- hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 Check out the Program rules at their site along with the Benefits. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/sharelunker/

Crappie; The Crappie are still slow because of all the rain and fresh water we have had in the last few weeks. This time of year you play with the wind as the fronts move through. Between the fronts there are usually a few days that the wind will lay down.

The new pontoon has plenty of room for everyone so get you trips booked for next year.

God Bless
