Took my father out to Navarro Mills Marina located in Liberty Park and if I had not seen it with my own eyes I would not have believed it.

The folks at the marina had placed new trees in the wells a few days earlier and everyone there was pulling crappie out like they were perch fishing. Many times, as soon as the jig hit the water you got a hit.

I sat there from about 10am till dark and lost count of the number of crappie we pulled out. The only down side was that very few of them were keepers. A little girl was there fishing and her giggles from catching so many fish had all the oldtimers around smiling and laughing with her.

I have to say that for sheer number of fish caught it was my best day ever. Just wish a few more were keepers. I'd be back there now but I promised I would do a bunch of errands that are going to eat up my whole day.

Hope they hold out till next weekend. fish

welcome aboard andrew

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I took my kids out to N.M. on Sat. We caught about 50 crappie mostly all dinks, we gave about four away. My kids had a blast catching them on jigs.

Navarro! Dat is a good lake. When it is on hold on and when it slows down move on.....Navarro will spoil you on shear size alone!

A good day fishing is not losing a jig, a bad day fishing is not losing a minnow!

The lake has been holding at 100% full. It looks like it is going to be a really good year for crappie. I am ready to do some creek walking down there for sure...

I will either head back out there, or just stay here and fishing Waco. I hear that lake N.M. has some really nice crappie in it, and by looking at the pictures at the park store, that will probably be a VERY crowded place in the spring.

Got this email today from Brenda at the Marina....

Keith,

Last week they were catching bigger crappie (16-20 on average with a few fishermen catching their limit). Since then, they have mostly been small ones. The biggest one I saw yesterday weighed 1.18 lbs. They have been biting in the evening which may be a good sign. You are right, conditions are much better this year.

Have a great day!

Had to check this place out this morning. Left Cedar Park @ 0430 and was fishing @ 0630. Definitely a nice setup with alot of brush and lots of room to fish. Should be super hot as the water warms. Bite wasn't there today. Small cold front last night turned them off I'm sure. Ended up catching 5 small crappie on black/chartreuse jigs. Also caught 4 carp that were 8 to 10 inches on the same jig. Don't know what is up with the carp unless they are chumming the place. Looking forward to the next trip soon. Gonna take the boat next trip. Are there any good maps of this lake available?

Keep on fishing.

Nope didn't think about it. Tried to find one on www.aidmaps.com to no avail. Guess it is like my home lake. To small for them to produce one. Would think that this company would be all over it since the state record crappie came out of this little gem. hammer

Keep on fishing.
