Need some suggestions - I've been trying to get a spare key made for a ProCraft and no luck. Took my key to Walmart and Lowe's - they don't have the proper blank to cut one. Went to Western Auto - they cut one as best they could (free cuz not sure if it would be good enough), tried it this morning but did not fit. Called a locksmith and they think maybe, have to look at it to be sure - so I'll try that tomorrow. Anyone else have problems trying to get a spare? Where to try? Thoughts...Thanks in advance for any advice. confused

What kind of motor is it too? Any dealership that handles that brand should be able to get a replacement for you.

Merc 150 XR6. I suppose if the locksmith cannot do it then I'll contact one of the local dealers. Thanks.

I would call a couple of Merc dealers and see if they have a blank. Lot quicker and cheaper than a locksmith.

I will do that - the locksmith said it'd be about two bucks, if he had the right type. I'll call me a couple of Merc dealers and check them. Hate to waste gas driving around trying to get it done. They (dealer) for sure should know if they can do it. With the boat show going on, hadn't given it much thought to call a dealer. Thanks too.

I did talk with a Merc Dealer and here's the deal (just so everyone kinda knows) if the key has a letter/number on it they can match it up and get one - if not - like if it is an aftermarket key/switch which has no letter / number on it (mine is smooth on both sides) then only a locksmith can cut one.
So, it looks like I'll take it to a locksmith and try that route.
Thanks everyone... thumb

Does it have a plastic cover over the top of the key? If so, you have to take the key off of your key ring, slide the plastic down and walahhh, right below the hole is the number. Mercury only has three keys I believe a 1A,1B, and 1C.

My key does not have a cover on it. It does have a letter "A" but no number on it. I suspected it might just be an aftermarket key, but maybe not. Do you think the "A" is enough for a MErc Dealer to get one made? noidea

Thanks

FYI - I made the trip to the Mercury Dealership and turns out my "A" imprint denotes that of a Tracker. The letter with number (1A, etc...) is that of Mercury. Didn't know that. Anyway, they didn't have my blank on hand but ordered me two for spares. I'll be able to pick them up soon after arrival.
Only having one key makes me nervous if it ever was lost or otherwise - so I'll be good with spares on hand soon enough.

Thanks again! thumb
